How does Royal Pacific compare to Disney's Polynesian Resort?

I have stayed at the Poly and love it. I *love* the tropical island theming and was wondering how the two resorts compare- in terms of room size, quality, overall atmopshere, restaurants, service, etc.

I know the benefits of staying onsite for Disney and the benefits of staying at Royal Pacific for Universal's parks, but I'd like to know how they compare strictly on the resort experience itself. Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

We have stayed at the Poly several times and just stayed at the Royal Pacific. We'd go back to both in a heartbeat! We usually only make it over to Universal every 3 years because DH gets so relaxed at Disney that we just don't get around to it. He can't WAIT to go back to stay at RP for a couple of days.

RP rooms are smaller, but very nice. No problem with 2 of us, but those with kids might enjoy the larger Poly rooms. RP does have some type of "kid rooms", but I didn't pay any attention to them. Prices are going to be less than the Poly, especially with something like a AAA discount.

Colors were dark, but fine. Very comfy beds, and there's a couch in rooms with a King bed, which is great. Internet hookup in the room, with keyboard at ~ $10 per 24 hrs.

Service seemed very good ..... there were a couple people who gave us some wrong information, but we have found that at Disney, too. Housekeeping did a great job.

We thought the front lobby and grounds were lovely. RP is new, and looks new. Very large pool/beach area. This hotel is high rise and spread out in 3 wings, so there's not the same feeling of walking between the buildings at night. Don't expect it to be the same..... I know that many people like it better. We were VERY impressed.

Our room was almost the furthest distance from the pool and water taxi, but only ~ 5 minutes. There's a lovely walkway to CityWalk. Restaurant selections are great -- very good continental breakfast selections in the lobby; a buffet and a place to get very good sandwiches (and drinks); and Emerils ---- this was so much fun and worth the $$$$$$

I really can't recall a snack bar/quick service ......... could have been somewhere ..... ? at the pool ........ sorry, I just don't know. It's very convenient to City Walk, with a big variety of places to eat, and the other 2 resorts are nearby. I'd definitely recommend you give RP a try.

Same theme. Both have luaus. Both have child care.

RPR (Universal's newest)
335 sq. ft.
1 pool (largest in the City of Orlando)
1 interactive play area
1 child pool
2 whirlpools and 1 indoor whirlpool
3 cabanas
24 hour room service
2 Restaurants (Tchoup Chop is better than O'Hanas)
2 Lounges
Poolside drinks and dining
Fitness Center
No balconies
Allows pets
Parking $10

Poly
409 sq. ft.
Built 1971? Renovated in 2001 so probably shows some wear.
Poly's layout is confusing.
If the speedway is running you know it.
Poly has no fitness center.
The Neverland Club is nice.
You can't beat the beach view of MK.
No charge for parking.

Good points that I forgot: there's a charge for parking, and no balconies ----- which makes no sense to me for a hotel in a very warm climate, except it saves $$$$. That's why we'd probably just stay ~ 2-3 nights.

We have done both several times nad enjoy both. Although there is something about the Poly overall feel and kept in mind I am not someone who only stays at the Poly.

But heres a thought, we have a rate at the Poly this July for $329.00 before tax a night, I believe. We just recieved a postcard for the Loew's hotels- Royal pacific $129 (sun-Thurs) anf $149 (Fri-Sat).

I'm really glad to see this thread - we'll be staying at both for the first time in May.

It will be very interesting to compare - at RPR we have a King Suite and at the Poly we have Lagoon View Concierge. More room and a door to shut vs the castle view and concierge...?

All I can say for nearly certain is that if we like the RPR (which I am anticipating we will) we'll be back. Poly LVC probably not. RPR was $241 for the King Suite...Poly LVC is leftover DVC points.

No matter what, I am very excited to experience both!

SnowWitch, That is a great rate! Do you know how you got the postcard? Is it like Disney in that it has a PIN on it? Thanks for your help!

That is a great rate ... was there a code for this? :sunny:

I have read over the info again and it looks like it may be a Ga resident rate. It never hurts to call and ask though. But from the wording it appears thats the case.

Thanks SnowWitch for the reply. Another thing to miss about not living in GA anymore!! Hope you can get that great rate!!
