Yes, it does take a leap of faith to rent. You can alwasy ask for referral or rent from someone who has many posts to get a feel for the person.
I have done both, renting to and from people. A lot of time I find the most comfort when I talk to the person. My first stay was at BWV by renting someone else's pts even though I was a member. We spoke and I sort of felt comfortable after finding out a little more about him. It was actually someone who only posted once.
The second time, I almost went ahead and rented someone's pts but instincts told me something did not feel right (he wanted $$, cashier's check, before any reservation could be made) and I walked away, turned out some people did not problems with him and there was a big thread on it.
The 3rd time, just this past week, I rented 3 nights at WLV from this other
DVC member, for whatever reason, I felt comfortable with her and she called me on Friday to give me the confirmation details. I think she is a great and honest person.
You just have to figure out how you can be comfortable with the rental process and the member. It is not worth it to get stressed over it.
Good luck!!!
