How does one get a Magic Band?

And Canadians get shafted again...

Can't even get luggage straight through... as Canadians we HAVE to pick it up at Baggage Claim.

YES you can, we do it all the time, they will send you you luggage tags and you will put them on when you check in. How are you flying? Direct? Connecting?

If we fly direct or connect through a US airport, we go through customs in our home airport, if we fly through Montreal or Toronto we do that there.

I don't know who your travel agent is but they should-

1. Know this
2. Be able to provide you with the correct # to link to your My Disney experience account.
3. Be able to give you the info about the bands - yes you dont get them until you arrive but you still get to customize them and choose your colours.

In the past, I've always flown from Vancouver through either Toronto, Dallas, or Denver, depending on what airline I selected at the time. This time, however, I chose Westjet, which is a red-eye direct flight from YVR to MCO. In that respect, I think if DME sent me luggage tickets it would go directly through and I wouldn't see my luggage until I got to my room. I've never done a direct flight and I don't think direct flights were available until Westjet came along, and I also believe Westjet does this only twice a week. I got a direct flight on the way back too, but it's at a more reasonable hour.

I'll have to email my TA again and tell them it's not the right reservation number. I'll be doing the carry-on thing this time so I'll have my luggage with me at all times anyway, so it's kind of irrelevant now. :)

Any changes must be made thru the TA, but I don't see why Disney Reservations couldn't provide them with the confirmation number (seeing as the TA doesn't seem to know how to get the correct one for their customer).

My understanding is that Disney won't discuss anything to do with a TA-owned reservation with the guest.

That is true. I stopped booking through TA's because when there was a problem I called Disney directly and they said my TA had to fix it.

Create an MDE account and then tell your TA that they need to do their job and get you the correct info.
You can't set up FP+ 60 days out if your reservation is not on there.
As for luggage tags I believe that if you go through customs in your departure airport you should be able to use the DME tags.
For magic bands you will have to pick them up at the front desk however you may be able to customize them on MDE first but again you can't do that unless your reservation is linked.
If you want magic bands prior to going you'll have to buy them from the Disney Store website but I wouldn't bother since you'll get complimentary ones when you arrive at your hotel.

Gee, I never thought of going to the local Disney Store for tickets. Right now Disney is offering a 25% discount on park tickets for Canadians, which I took advantage of on Disney's website. I wonder if the Disney Store would still offer this... I'm sure they're aware of it! They might be able to do the Magic Band for me as well. I'll have to look into that before I leave. Thanks for the reminder!

Your local Disney Store will not sell you magic bands.
Also if you have your tickets already then not sure why you'd go to your local Disney Store?

I'm picking my tickets up at the Will Call desk when I get to the Park instead of having them mailed to me. It's $25 US to have them shipped by Fedex and I refuse to pay for getting my tickets early. If one can save oneself $25 US then picking them up when I get there doesn't seem so bad and I can spend that money on something else I want at the parks.

Even with will call tickets you can link them to your MDE account with the confirmation number and when you get your magic bands at check in you won't even need the physical tickets just the magic band, IF you link everything to one MDE account

Were you just looking to get the actual Disney Reservation Number or correct an issue with the reservation?

Once was to get my reservation number because my TA had not given it to me and she had the day off.
Another time was to correct an issue.
Both times I was told that I could not be helped because my reservation was made through a TA.

They have recently been helping guests get their confirmation numbers when TAs are not.

Gee, I never thought of going to the local Disney Store for tickets.

But you are responding to someone telling you about magicbands, NOT tickets. Tickets can be accessed by magicbands, but other than that they have NOTHING to do with tickets.

You get magicbands by purchasing magicbands OR by having an onsite reservation OR by having an AP and then customizing the MB to be sent to you (not sure how that works with APs).

I can't link my account yet because my travel agency doesn't have the correct Disney reservation number for me. I have to wait until I get to to the front desk so they can tell me what it is.

They've already told me that this is what they believe the reservation number to be but when I enter the one my TA gave me into MDE, it says it can't find it.

Is your TA an online TA like priceline.com, or someone local? The online ones should know how to get the number, and really a local one should, too. It's a 12 digit number that starts with 4, last I checked. That said, sometimes the other numbers work, too. But they really need to do this for you; otherwise what is the point of booking with them again in the future?

Why do you feel you can't get luggage straight through? As far as I know Canadians go through US customs at their home airport, so you don't worry about that. And everything I've read says that Canadians DO get magical express luggage stickers.

And if for some reason you aren't getting them (and it seems you aren't), you can STILL use the service if you're arriving within their delivery hours. From the luggage tag sticky on the Transportation forum here..."you can have Disney claim them for you as if you did have those yellow tags. Bypass baggage claim, and go straight to the Welcome Center. From there, give the Cast Member your luggage claim tickets. They will create replacement tags for you, find your bags, tag them, and send them to your resort."

If you have already ordered your tickets with the 25% off, I'm not sure why you would go to a Disney store to get them?? And why would you purchase a MagicBand when you get a complimentary one with your resort stay?

Since you are a Disney resort guest and will have MagicBands, you actually do not need to pick up physical tickets at all.

I'm with the others -- your TA is not doing a good job. You should have both your tickets and your Disney resort reservation linked in your MDE account. If the TA did not give you the correct confirmation numbers to do this, please talk with him or her again, explaining that you need them. Once both those things are linked, you can book fastpasses 60 days before checkin.

I just wanted to update you all on my reservation question. When I received my DME luggage tags today, I hadn't opened the envelope until just now (about 5 hrs later), and in the top right hand corner of the note, it has my CBR reservation number! So I went to the MDE website and entered it into the system to link it to my account, and it WORKS!!!!

Thanks to all for your suggestions, I'm now able to make reservations and personalize my trip! Looks like I won't be getting any sleep tonight!
