How does one become a Web Master?

well if you get a serious answer to this PLEASE let me know, as I asked this several months ago and got NO serious responses.

I forgot in my previous post that the reason why I asked about becomeing a webmaster/moderator here was to give back for the great site and forums here. I got much from it and felt I owed it something. But know that they have the sponserships options (and I signed up immediately) I am less concerned about persuing it (but would give it SERIOUS thought if asked if I wanted to help out as a mod/webmaster)

You have probably never gotten a straight answer because it's not an easy question to answer.

The webmaster is Pete Werner. He owns the site. The assistant webmasters were all asked by Pete personally, and are most or all people who have been with the site from the very beginning. They are people who Pete got to know personally and whom he trusts implicitly. To get to be a webmaster here, in my opinion, you would have to have been a moderator here for many years.

You become a moderator by being asked by Pete or one of the assistant webmasters. There is no set criteria and it's not just something you volunteer for. The webmasters watch the boards for people they feel would do a good job and fit in. If I were a webmaster and had a say in who was picked to be a chat host or moderator (which I don't, thankfully) I would look for people who had been here a long time, who were helpful and courteous, and who stayed away from controversy.

You are always welcome to express your interest in becoming a moderator or chat host to one of the assistant webmasters.

That's about all of the advice I have to offer. I hope that answered your questions.

<font color=navy>Lisa captured it in a nutshell. :)

Mike, ncligs, & Andrew....

Just a little elaboration on Lisa's most excellent explanation....

Sometimes moderators step down, sometimes a board just gets too big for the mods that already handle it, sometimes a new board is created, and sometimes the webmasters just feel that some changes are in order. At that time they confer, put their notes together, and select people they'd like to ask to be moderators (or chat host, if need be). Sometimes a mod might make a suggestion who they feel would be good as a mod on a particular board.

There are a lot of posters here who are very valuable - you don't have to be a moderator or webmaster to contribute to the community.... Each board seems to have a particular group of "experts" who answer questions, or just make others feel welcome, and as in any community that is so important ... and appreciated.

I think removing one would allow you to be 'biologicaly correct".

However, stapling one on to make a total of 11 would not be allowed. :)
