Was told I cannot book 1 bedroom for five of us - three of which are children (10, 8, 4). I can understand their max capacity if it were 4 adults, but what is a family of 5 to do - a 2 bedroom is overkill and more expensive. Even if I exclude one to make ressie - one of us cannot ride ME. How do you guys do it?

The newer (AKV and BLT ) 1 BR villas have a sleeper chair and will have 2 bathrooms that will accomodate a family of 5. DVC has been allowing 5 in 1 BR villas at the other DVC resorts with the understanding that you need to provide your own bedding and sleeping equipment for the 5th person as well as the fact that you will only get towels for 4. Many people bring an air bed and bedding and it works fine.

We are a family of four, my son who is 21 doesn't often travel with us anymore. This past June he and his GF went with us so we had five. Me, DW, DD15, DS21 and DSGF23. We stayed in a two bedroom and would have been crawling all over one another in a one bedroom. I know that you are talking about much younger children, but the three of them would be delegated to a sleeper sofa unless you are planning on some of them sleeping with you.

Our general guidelines are; when it is just DW and me we stay in a studio, when we add our DD we go with a one bedroom and when we add my son and his GF we go with a 2 bdr.

There are some one bedrooms at AKV at the Jambo House (Value rooms) that only sleep four unless the fifth one is under the age of three.

Once Kidani Village (AKV) and BLT open, DVC could go back to only allowing four in the one bedroom at all the other DVC resorts. All the literature for DVC states four in a one bedroom other than these two newest resorts.

By the way, occupancy is a restricted topic on the DIS so you will need to post more about it on this thread:

We are family of 5. Our kids are 17,14 and 9. We have only stayed in 2br. We thought for a bit about trying the 1 bedroom at AKV next summer but realized we are spoiled by a 2 br now. I think a 1 br. with smaller kids might work out fine though.

Not sure where you were planning on staying but I just returned from a stay in a 1 bedroom at OKW and it was very spacious. OKW has the largest rooms of all the DVC resorts. A blow up mattress would fit without issue in the living room and the queen size sleeper sofa was quite comfortable.

We also have 3 children- 17,14, &10. We always get a 2 bedroom. It works well for us because we get a room, the 2 girls get a room with their own beds, and my son gets the pull out couch in the living room. We could never do it with 1 bathroom.
