How does doing more than one CP affect your graduation year?

Hey Everyone,

I'm about to start my first CP so I guess I'm getting ahead of myself with asking this question, but I was curious. I've seen a few people that have done two or three college programs. How bad does this slow down your education? I'm fine with taking a semester off from college to do a CP, but I'm not sure I could imagine ending up taking 3 semesters off for 3 CPs. I'm actually still already thinking about trying to do a second one at some point. I'm a double major so I'm going to be in school forever anyway :rotfl:. I know you can just work the summer for Summer CP Alumni, but apparently there are people who have the time to devote a whole new semester to CP.

I find it interesting and am curious about how it has worked for people as far as how much longer it made their college education. Do you think it was worth it?

Actually, it helps my graduation year. I get 6 credits just for working there and a full 12 credits if I take two of the classes Disney offers. Either way, I will still be recognized as a full-time student, even if I only do the six credits. My school loves the CP and encourages the students to try out for it, no matter what major we are in. Because of this, Disney loves my school and that is why they accept around 95 percent of the kids at my school who applies.

That's interesting! My campus college program coordinator mentioned something about how I could get credit just for working, but it would be towards elective credits and I already have all of mine completed.

I'm really looking forward to taking two classes when I'm down there though. If you do a second program can you take another couple of classes down there?

It's going to count as elective credits for me as well. But, I'm a liberal arts major, so almost all of my credits are electives, lol! And yes, you can take the classes in your second program, third program, etc.

Awesome, thanks! I know Disney has quite a few classes I wanted to take anyway, so even more motivation to do more than one CP!

My intended second major (haven't exactly started it yet lol) is business and the two classes I plan on taking during this CP transfer back to my school as business credits, so I think that is really nifty.

This is a great question, because I would also love to do the CP more than once, but I am also worried that it will affect my education. I haven't done the CP yet, but I do plan to in the spring. I'm a business major, and I really hope that after I graduate I can work for the Disney Company. I don't know if my college "likes" the program a lot, I just know that they always have the live campus presentation, so I assume they do get a lot of students asking to do it.

I'm sure it's something that each student must talk about to their advisor. I'm going to transfer soon, so once I'm settled in I will be in my advisor's office 24/7 LOL!

I want to work for the Disney company too after graduation! I want to be a manager of something, but it's kinda obvious you need a business degree to do that so that's why I'm starting it as my second major. When I started college, I decided my major should be psychology because I think it's interesting, but I realized I don't want to have a career with it. I'm too far in to just give up on it though so I'll just have two majors.

Still curious to hear about people's experiences with multiple college programs and if it made their college time a lot longer or it helped them advance at all?

I've waited until I've graduated to do the CP program. My school does not accept ANY credit from Disney so I would have been taking a quarter to two quarters off for the program, putting me behind.

Also, it depends on your major. I'm a zoology major so there is no way any of the classes credits would count towards anything. I already have enough units to graduate just through my major.

So that's why I waited... It would have put me back quite a bit and I would be putting a lot of current things on hold. But hey, if your school and major accept the units and you're able to do it, go for it.

I know some people have done a summer alumni program and count it (as they should) as another program. So you could do one semester long and multiple summer ones and possibly even have different roles which would be good if you want to work with the company post graduation since it will give you a ton of different expierence. It really depends on your school and how much credit they give you for a program how far behind you would get.

On the management subject ironcally Disney really doesn't care what you get your degree in as long as you have one. I'm sure the knoweldge you get from your classes could be helpful but honestly they are just as likely to promote someone with a horaculture degree as a business one. Having the degree is a great thing and combined with some expierence in the department as well a little bit of networking and you can go far.

Disclaimer: I am in no way endorsing not getting a degree, I think everyone should get one, lol

That being said, you don't need a business degree to be a manager or something at Disney. My manager last program actually came straight from the CP with no degree they liked him that much.

Certain roles if you apply for them will require a degree much of the time, but if you're working with the company already they will promote you from within regardless of what they require from applicants.

My uncle works for Disney ABC, got promoted and flown out to Cali and is a high-level boss for the computing department there. He has a degree now, but got to be a high level worker here in NYC first without one. He actually quit to go get it, and all his years of school Disney kept calling and begging for him to return. With the degree he could request a bigger paycheck.

So yeah degrees help, but are by no means a requirement.

Very good to know about the degree. I'm mostly just trying to keep up with competition as I feel like someone with a business degree would be more likely to get the position if it came down to being between me and them. Super excited to start the CP! And hopefully multiple ones :)

I know I read somewhere that a former CEO graduated with an english degree, so yeah, you really don't have to have a Business degree, but it think it's better IMO.

I like the idea of doing the CP in the summer, but I am just worried that school would start before the summer CP ends.

This is kind of offtopic, but I did start this thread so I don't feel so bad for hijacking it...

Does anyone know details about the professional internship? I've been reading around about it and already completely want to do it. It seems much harder to get though, which is intimidating. I'd want to do the one for management so does that mean you have to currently be a business student to do it? I don't really know what their requirements are. I visited their website and know the basics, like you must still be in college. For each internship though I didn't see their specific requirements.

If anyone wants to share their professional internship knowledge, it'd be appreciated.

For some of business internships you don't have to. I'm a zoology major and I was planning on applying for a food service manager internship. I've been working in restaurants for almost a year now though and see that as being a second career choice. However, I applied for the animal PIs and decided not to apply for the food manager one at this time.

The PIs are much more competitive. Where the CP program hires thousands of people, the PIs hire only 1 or 2 or maybe a handful or two. There are requirements for each internship. If you're interested them, I'd definitely look at the website. Also, check out the actual listings for the internships because they'll have even more information on them. The deadline for applying is March 11th.

Also, it might be beneficial to do the CP program and then the PIs. I know a lot of the PIs require you to have done a CP program or another PI. Again, just check out the website.

Thanks. I definitely plan on doing this CP first and then the PI later on. When I was on the website, it is as if the specific job listings are where the details are, but there were none that I saw (for the internship I want to do). Maybe it's because they take down the postings once they've been filled.

Most of the PIs are currently being filled. At least for the animal programs, you have till the 11th of this month to apply. However, I too was surprised some of the others have already been taken off the website. If you want more details you can always send an email to the PI recruiters (there should be an email somewhere on that page). Or you can always wait till they come up for the next session.

I'll just wait as I'm in no hurry to do it. I'm doing the Fall Advantage CP and then I plan on going back to school for a semester so I can get back into the swing of things and start my business major. So I guesstimate another year before I even apply for a PI. I was just generally wondering some basics. I'm one of those plan-way-ahead people. I appreciate all of your help though.

I did 6 CPs, but only missed 2 semesters (2 were summer alumni, and 2 were after I graduated). I did get credit for both of them, so I only really lost one semester
