How does Disney measure up?

I've been paroosing the different cruises for my first cruise trip.

I've looked at Disney, and though I would adore taking a Disney Cruise, the ports are what are pushing me to take a different cruise. I'm a CA resident and Disney only has one cruise which has CA as a port. I would love to take that cruise, but for my first one, I'm think 15 days is a bit much.

So I'm wondering how Disney measures up compared to other cruise lines. Is it better accommodation's? More things to do during? Better service?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth the price of a round trip plane ticket (possibly 400 or more dollars) to cruise Disney.

They are doing 7 night Magic trips out of LA San Pedro from Mid May to 17th August on Sundays. Going down to Mexico.
The 15 night Panama crossing cruise is currently fully booked.

I have traveled on other cruise lines, I would say.

DCL are better with kids clubs, The entertainment, service in the restaurants and guest services,

Also if you go to Caribbean their island castaway cay is the best of any cruise line.

Food, pools,service in your room is the same as other lines.

We have cruised Disney and Princess one time each; Royal Caribbean 3 times, and Carnival eight times. Needless to say, Carnival is our very favorite. The old stuff about it being a "party ship" really gives the wrong connotation. Its not "wild" but just gives a lot of options for evening entertainment. We've cruised with friends that range in age from 20s to 60s and all really enjoyed Carnival. Thats not to say that the other cruise lines aren't also good. Disney is Disney (which I love), but the cost is also higher. Castaway Cay is absolutely wonderful and its nice and fun to see the characters on board ship. Also the kids clubs on Disney are really good. Our three year old grandson had a blast. We understand that Camp Carnival is also very good for kids, but we have no first hand experience with it. Food, entertainment, service, etc. all seem on a pretty equal par.

Bottom line, we think you get much better value on Carnival and the food has always been terrific. You probably won't go wrong with any of these as long as you do your research and go for one of the main cruise lines. The only bad review I ever heard directly from a friend was years ago when she cruised on an "off the wall" cruise line and had a horrible trip.

How exciting that you're planning your first cruise. I'm sure you will enjoy it tremendously.

I agree with the last poster. Disney cruises are great on the east coast because of Castaway Cay. I've cruised other lines and they are all fun. If the price is a lot higher on Disney, other cruises are great too! (unless your kids are young and big Disney fans).
Other lines with newer ships actually have MORE ammenities. But Disney has great service, great shows, good food, bigger cabins in the lower categories, fresh water heated pools, split bathrooms and great kids clubs.

All ships have their own charms and I've had great times on other lines as well. Happy sails!
