How does Disney keep you coming back?

I have thought this many times and every time I do I'm reminded of this quote by Walt himself

"Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it's done right."

Has anyone else ever thought how they make a place that was opened in the 60's seem brand new every year?

Also let me know what does keep YOU coming back.

For me it's just how perfect everything seems. It's like from day one they have been the same and will never change.

Good questions!

What keeps me back is memories. I've always lived within two driving-hours of WDW, so we came a lot when I was a kid. My parents had a TIGHT budget (we even brought our own food in, couldn't get anything on property!), but they made it sooo magical. So, as an adult I like to relive those beautiful childhood memories, especially since the last few years my family has undergone a lot of "demographic" changes.

Along those same lines, it's also fun to do things that I couldn't afford to as a child, such as stay and eat on property. I still like to look at all of the little souvineers that I drooled over as a child, knowing that I can now buy (not all!) them as an adult, but choosing not to. Or . . . sometimes doing it just b/c I can .

That's a good point-what other place has been around so long and still keeps growing in attendance??

For us it is the fact that we forget about the "outside world" while we are there. Our oldest son has had over thirty surgeries in his 12 short years and Disney is the one place that the next surgery never crosses our mind and we can all be kids again.

Like the OP said, we forget the outside world. Dh doesn't watch news or read a newspaper while we are there. We leave it all at the gate.

And the kids have such a great time. I will always remember the looks on their faces at their first parades. They were so amazed and if a character came up to them to high five, it was rock star special.

For me, it's just very simply my Happy Place. No outside world, no problems, just pure joy and bliss.

I never went as a child, but dreamed of it all my life. My first trip was when I was 21, and I've been hooked ever since. Disney World makes you feel like a child again!

And as someone else stated, everything just seems so perfect there. It's a quality of entertainment that you don't get anywhere else. The little touches add SO much.

And we can't find another place so encompassing, everything you would ever want with free transportation to get you there. We've compared other vacations, price wise and dollar for dollar, disney wins. We, like others stated, leave our troubles at home and immerse ourselves in make-believe and nothing says it better than staying on property. We've watched our children grow up going to Disney, and now get to see our grandchildren stare amazed at Main Street and the castle.........oh thru the eyes of the young, nothing gets any better than that....why mess with it!

Does the real world exist when you are at Disney World??? Not when we are there. It brings the kid out of me. When I'm there its so relaxing. We find new things there all the time. The Food!!! What can I say about the FOOD? Just, Its GREAT! The people that work there are Awsome. I never went there as a kid, we could not afford it, but as an adult, well we go when we can, and we know we will have an AWSOME time.

That's what everyone keeps asking us. "You're going back to Disney AGAIN? But you were JUST there." Even my husband says that he's done at the end of our trip but then he's the first one to say "Let's go back to Disney" when we even start looking at vacations somewhere else because the price is just right. I even got him hooked on the dining plan last year. We're working into our twenties this trip and have never done the dining plan. We always went counter service and ate off property. Of course our 14yr old grumbles a little because he's gone every year since he was 9mos old. But now he's hooked on the dining plan and Wolfgang Puck's. It's kind of like Jerry McGuire said - "You complete me." Everything you could ever need has been thought of already and is there for you. No other place has that or ever will. It's my happy place.

My DH is the same way. Every year after our trip he says,"We are going somewhere new next year." Then when I start planning he'll say, "Why don't we go back to Disney?" And our family and friends can't believe we are always going back. But it's wonderful. (We have family who went last year and didn't like it. I don't get them at all.)

Disney thinks of everything to make your vacation easier. For example, at the water parks last summer I wanted pics of my kids but didn't want to carry a camera around. I get there and poof there's photographers taking pictures for you! Sure you have to buy them but the convenience is worth it to me!

It's a place where I can be a kid again and trust Disney to take care of the rest, like my parents did when I was growing up!

I hear the same thing about going there again. I went for the first time on my honeymoon. Grew up watching WWOD. I was hooked at 20. I haven't been there that many times, maybe a dozen, but I never tire of it. It is always fresh and fun. There are things to do that are familiar old favorites and always some new thing that makes you long to go back. We've now been to DL (loved it! ) and on DCL 3x and make sure to get to at least one park before each cruise too.
I hope to work there when I retire from teaching.

Same here!

As crazy as this sounds, I still get goosebumps when I watch movies like The Little Mermaid and being in WDW gives me the same kind of feeling. It's kind of like what it used to feel like waiting up for Santa on Christmas Eve as a kid. It's hard to be that excited about anything as an adult in the real world.

I think what keeps my family and I coming back is the atmosphere. We just love being in the parks and enjoying one another's company. Personally, the reason I LOVE going back is because it feels like home - I grew up with Disney everything (I share a b-day with Walt : D, I grew up going to WDW every year, my brothers and sister-in-law were cast members.) So it's def. a huge part of our lives!

I never had a chance to go as a kid. My first time was on my honeymoon at age 24. Epcot had just opened, to tell you how long ago. The next time I went was in 1997, we took our kids for the 1st time. I been quite a few more times since then. It is my homeland as DH would say. It was simply amazing. The looks on my kids faces, the whole atmosphere, forgetting the outside world for awile. I've stayed on site, off site and live no where near it (18 hrs). I would leave right now for Disney if I could. Even Downtown Disney makes me happy.
I am looking forward to going back in June (my son will be playing at the WWOS) and we'll hit the park at least a day or two. You can't be in the area and not go.
To all those that don't get it. I'll never understand. It makes you feel like a little kid again. It truly is the "happiest place on earth".

For us each trip is different than the last. We stay at a different resort in Disney, eat at all different restaurants, try different attractions, do a new tour, or rent a boat on a different waterway.

We travel with different people and leave the world behind when we are there. It is so relaxing not to have to drive while on the property. It's easy to split up because you can just catch another bus back to the resort later on if someone wants to go back early.

And we also have the problem of family saying, "You're going back to Disney? Weren't you just there?"

For me, it's just being able to be with my wife and kids and enjoying "The happiest place on Earth" with them. Being a kid, watching my kids have a magical time, and watching my wife have fun, with no cares in the world.

Watching her smile as she rides IASW again, taking it all in, likeit was her first time riding. Getting excited when one of us sees a character and watching my kids running over to get in line for an autograph or picture. Listening to my children talk to each other as they are walking off a ride, like ToT, Space Mt., Splash Mt. or EE and telling each other how great the ride was...all of those things. It truly is our happy place.
