How does Disney determine which rides get FP's??

Just curious about this one. Is it only the older, tried and true type of rides that get considered for FP machines? Or does it depend on the type of ride, such as continuous loading/turn based?

Just curious as to why new rides like Nemo and Toy Story Mania that are constantly swamped with average wait times of 45 minutes or more, are not considered for FP machines right away? Wouldn't it make life easier for everyone if these rides were opened with FP capablility? Or are they added after the ride has been operational for a certain length of time?

Has it been determined for sure that TSM will not be a FastPass? I saw some questions about that and was curious. Dang, I hope not, I want to be able to FP it and ride lots!

I seem to remember reading that it partly depends on the type of ride and the loading speed. For "cycle loaders" like Nemo, Teacups and Dumbo, the ride must be stopped, people exited, new people loaded and then started again. They're really slow and low capacity compared to the interval loaders like Space or PotC, or continuous loaders like Buzz and HM. So if they had FP, the return time would be pushed out to the end of the day by like 10 or 11 a.m. and the FP machines would be shut down. As it is, the more popular ones like SM or ToT can sell out by 1 or 2 p.m. on busy days.

On the other hand, Monsters Inc is a continuous loader and it's not FP. So that theory doesn't completely hold up. I kind of think Peter Pan should be, too.

It varies by how many people the ride can load in an hour. the # of people, im not sure. If you notice, all the Fastpass ride will have less than 10 sec loading times and is always on a continues run.

TSM and Nemo doesnt load fast enough. TSM esp, because the ride stops at the screens for like 30 secs on each screen. it has 2 tracks but even so, you have free time waiting for the previous train to finish with the game ahead.

Maybe I don't understand your statement. What do you mean by "all Fastpass rides will have less than 10 sec loading times"? Space Mt., Big Thunder, Tower of Terror, and Soarin' all take longer to load than that, and they all have fastpass.

I do agree that it is determined by the number of people a ride can load in an hour, but I don't understand the 2nd part of what you said.

It has to do with the people at the different resorts who determine which rides get FP machines. In general, the people in high places at WDW are much more keen on FP and adding it to as many rides as they can. At DLR, around 03-04 about 6 or 7 attractions were taken off of the FP system. It's just a difference in resort policy.

It also could be that there's much more room for FP machines and a FP return line at DHS. There's not much room for a FP return line at DCA.

On the other hand, Monsters Inc is a continuous loader and it's not FP. :confused2 So that theory doesn't completely hold up. I kind of think Peter Pan should be, too.

Monsters Inc. never has a long enough line for FP to be wanted. The only time Monster's has had a long line was during it's first year. Also Peter Pan, because of the queue configuration and limited space, there's no room for FP machines or a FP return line. And to make space would cost quite a bit.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Forgot about TSM stopping at different places. And about PP having an old queue and not much room to try to build an additional one for FP.

Hmmm, though, about the loading speed of Space Mt. and Big Thunder: those are the "in and out" ones, right? So they do load really fast, maybe not under 10 seconds but a lot faster than, say, Dumbo or Teacups. As soon as 2 people are stepping out to the right, you're stepping in to the left, almost on their heels. ToT though, takes a bit, doesn't it? But don't they have 4 elevators running at full capacity? And each ones holds quite a few people.

I always find it interesting to hear everybody's knowledge about different aspects of park operations here!

Can you imagine how long the stand by line would be if Nemo had FP? A super slow loading ride, with a line of people basically always cutting to the front. No way!

Some rides I think move better without FP, and don't need it. Like POTC for example. I think they have to look at the way the ride loads, how many people can ride per hour, how FP will impact the stand by line, what kind of ride it is, and how popular it's going to be ect...

i'm just glad disney has a free system that lets you bypass the lines. i know some parks have a "front of the line" pass and it's extra.
