How does changing resorts work?

I stayed at the Pop for a week in 2009 and planning another trip. The Pop was ok for the first visit but for our second visit I would like to visit Poly but not for the whole time due to cost so I'm thinking about 3 day at Pop 4 days at Poly or vice versa. With the added cost I want to be sure to have time to explore the resort and not feel pressured to be at a park everyday. How are we transported from pop to poly? Do they handle out luggage? What are some must do's at the resort? Hopefully this stop will prepare us for our upcoming trip to Hawaii.

We changed resorts twice on our trip last month. We just called luggage services from our room, and they came and got our bags and transported them for us. It was very easy! From there, we just went to the parks for the day and then took a bus back to our new resort in the evening.

Wow thanks! May I ask why you switch?

I'll be doing my 1st split stay in March - a girls trip - and we both wanted to try 2 deluxes that we noramly wouldn't pay to stay at with our families (this way we're splitting the cost). We also plan to enjoy the resorts just as much or more than the parks. I will be watching this thread for tips!

The friend I'm going with has done split stays before & said the same as the OP - just call bell services (or take your luggage down to them) and tell them what resort to transfer it to & it's there in a few hours!

If you are doing a split stay, just remember that Disney treats it as 2 separate reservations at 2 separate hotels. Make sure that if you are getting a package that the park tickets are attached to your first resort and are for the entire length of your WDW stay. That way the second resort is a room only reservation.

The dining plan seriously complicates things since it is only good for the length of stay at that particular resort. And it requires a certain number of days park tickets. This is not a problem for your stay at the first resort. But if you want the dining plan at your second resort, you would have to buy park tickets again. Expensive. It's usually cheaper to just pay OOP for meals once you move to the other resort.

In the past, we always brought our luggage with us for split stays, but my husband will only agree to a multi-split next time if we leave the transfers to bell services!

Do you have to be in your room for bell services to collect your luggage? For our cruise in August, we just left the luggage and DCL picked it up - we didn't have to wait around. So I'm hoping that we could just call bell services (leave a tip) and head out to the parks, rather than waiting for bell services to arrive in our room before we go.

You will need to either take your luggage down to bell services or wait for them to come pick it up. You just tell them which resort you wish to transfer to and they will give you a ticket/id tag with a number on it (these ID tags are also on your luggage). Resort transfers happen between 3-4pm

When we do split stays, I take a cab first thing in the morning with my luggage to new resort and check in early. If our room isn't ready, I just leave the luggage with Bell Service. Then head out to a park.
They have taxi vans, same price as regular cab, but more room for luggage.
