Could someone please explain how a wait list works.

If I make a reservation for 7 nights and my home resort and at 7 months try and switch to another resort. I know that if there are no rooms available I can be put on a wait list and that it's better to wait list day by day rather than all 7 nights at once. I also understand that I should ask for automatic confirmation so that if a room is there I get it straight away.

So how does this work with points and your existing reservation - do MS cancel your home resort for the night they allocate the wait list room and what happens if the new resort is more points - do they take these from your account or

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

They set it up however you want. They can do it as a new reservation and leave the original alone, until you choose to cancel, or they can substitute for the original. They deduct points from the account if needed.
