I always seem to make one attempt of wearing it down but it gets put up in a ponytail for 99% of the trip. When I'm warm it always seems to feel worse when my hair is touching the back of my neck.
Ponytail. Not just for the heat but to keep it somewhat neat. I have thick, curly hair. After rides like Test Track or BTMR it would be a disaster. As a previous poster stated don't forget to sunscreen your ears!
coincidentally I've cut all my hair off before my disney trips every time, but living in places where it hits the 90-100s in summer with high humidity and having long hair some summers I'd go for a bun. anything to keep my hair off my face and neck. I love my goody spin pins for it, but your hair needs some texture for those to hold. if you have smooth straight hair tons of bobby pins will do the trick.
I discovered an unexpected bonus to having long hair and a pony elastic at the parks...while in line there were people consistently crowding us from behind. I decided my pony needed re-doing and with just the right flip of the wrist as I was twisting it up into a fresh pony tail I was able to establish a personal space behind me which was respected for the rest of the wait.
I usually start down but end up in a half pony/half bun; you know the trick where you don't pull the hair all the way through the last loop in your ponytail? Gives that messy bun look that was sooo in for a while. I also use the spin pins for a more polished bun look. However, there are days when my favorite hair accessory would be a pair of scissors!!!
On at least one trip I did double ponytails, I think. Now I wear a broad-brimmed hat and often tuck my hair up under it. I do not care about style. I do care about comfort. The hat doubles as a fan and also holds any celebration pins.
I usually start with my hair down. I try to snag a few good pics (and try to schedule some character meets in the morning because of it) before the hair goes up and back for the afternoon heat.
I have long wavy hair and i just use a barrette on each side to pull my bangs off my face since they get messy/sweaty. I use a leave in curl cream and it keeps it from being frizzy. My hair hits mid-back but I don't find it cooler to put it up. I hate the sun beating on my neck.
Can you do a double fishtail braid? Or a french braid? I get severe headaches when my hair is up due to the weight. But when I get a braid it doesn't hurt so much. Of course then I get all the frizz on top but gives me an excuse to water down the top of my head and cool dow some.
I decided long ago that Disney for me means relaxing a bit and throwing the hair into a ponytail and wearing my special Mickey baseball hat. I don't wear shorts ever...unless I'm at at wdw (I inherited very noticeable varicose veins so I'm normally a pants or long dresses girl). It's just too hot and my kids want hours of swimming each day too so I just let it all go and ignore my hair for a week. They love not waiting for me to get ready like at home lol. A quick shower in the morning and/or after a swim and I'm good to go. Whatever you do, enjoy yourself! Just got back a month ago and I'm still depressed
I'm getting my hair cut next week to keep it shoulder length. Trying to decide if I should get it layered or keep one length. Layered might keep it from being too puffy at the bottom but could be hard to put up. My hair just hangs straight. It doesn't frizz, but I'm sure any sort of curl I try to put in it would just fall out in a matter of minutes. It doesn't last that long on a normal day anyway.
So I'm thinking different sizes of clips to clip back just sides or all of it. Maybe I'll even dig out my old banana clips. Remember those?
I just do a basic high pony. My hair is long enough that I can lay the hair from the pony over my shoulder so I still have hair in front in photos. I wish I could wear it down, but it is just too long for the heat.
that's usually us, also.
we (DD, who has incredibly thick, healthy, & wavy hair, and me, with fine, dry hair) use proclaim spray-on glosser - amazing, available at sally's beauty - and a chi flat iron. (we've tried other brands of treatment & flat irons - none worked nearly as well). both of us retain smooth hair, even in Floridian humidity ( no frizz ). fyi, rain will still make my hair a bit frizzy & make hers wavier, but only a tiny fraction of what it would be without.
once temps soar, i use pretty ponytail holders, DD uses heavy duty holders (her hair breaks any non-industrial strength ones)
i highly recommend the proclaim - no other product keeps my hair as smooth, all day long
I'm one of those girls that insists on doing my hair everyday (always down) but I found during our December trip that up just worked better. I hate how my hair looks in a ponytail but that's what I ended up doing. This time I'm taking my bun maker thingy - it looks like a donut and my hair wraps around it for that stylin' sock bun look. ;-)
A quick trip to hair cutlery for a $12 buzz cut does the trick for me......my husband doesn't like the look but OMG I don't want to have to be consulting the dis boards for how to wear my hair for a trip to Disney!
It depends on the time of year. Humidity is lower on our fall trips so I mostly wear my hair down but in the spring it's always up in a bun or ponytail. Even with the Brazilian Blowout the higher humidity just kills the underside of my hair so it's easier to pull it up.
