How do you vacation???

I used to be a commando. By day three, my wife was ready to leave me. This year will be our first trip "home" and I'm so ready to just relax. When you go often enough, it's easy to look at lines and keep walking.

Reading posts here, we often get the feeling that people aren't "DVC'ing" the relaxing way. So many people seem to rush through their WDW vacations like a team of Green Berets. Folks... ease up! Your DVC members!

Take your time, if you don't get to something this trip, it'll be there next time. We know that most everyone wants to get the most of their park passes, but trying to do too much makes you feel exhausted at the end of your trip. It can also add to stress.

Take some time to really enjoy your resort, that's not done enough. It isn't a sin to skip the parks all together on a DVC vacation. To many people don't seem to be able to take that advice. Some of our favorite vacation memories didn't happen in the parks, believe it or not!

This is just some friendly advice, so don't get upset. If your some kind of commando vacationer and feel slighted, don't post a reply here... try the Dr. Phil site, you need help! :rotfl2:

Hi,

I agree with you 100%!! Our next 2 trips will be as relaxed as possible. Getting up early & running around is not our style!

We made a concious effort to not rush out the door early in the morning, and that helped a lot on our last trip. I don't think we left the room before 9:30am on any given day. That eliminated a lot of the "hurry up, we're running late" conflict that arises when people are moving at different speeds. ;)

We always take a break in the middle of the day so that our kids can nap, so that gave us some daily downtime / nap time of our own.

At night, we were moving as long as the kids were. :)

But even with 5 trips in the last 36 months, I don't think we're ready for an "off day" yet. On our last trip, we had planned Blizzard Beach for the morning one day only to find rain in the forecast. Initially we said "oh, let's just hang around the hotel this morning", but everyone got stir crazy after about an hour. Off to Epcot we went...

Usually I get home only to realize that I need a vacation to recover from my vacation. But it's just so much darn fun along the way, you can't really slow down. If I wanted to read a book on vacation or sunbathe, I'd be lying on a beach in the middle of nowhere...not pitching my tent in the middle of WDW.

Like DianeSchlicht I don't do commando, but when I bring someone who won't be back soon I do rush around a little bit more. When I was only able to go every 2-3 years you BET I did commando, but there's no need for that now that I go 3-5 times a year.

However here's my diliemma--When I stay in the room or hang out at the resort for more than a couple of hours I always feel I should be DOING something, so I head out and get busy. Then I start to feel I am going to regret not relaxing enough so I go back to the resort for a break. And then the whole cycle starts over again. It sometimes feels like no matter what I do I can't get the right "mix" of relaxing and touring. Sigh, I guess it's a metaphor for my life--whatever I'm doing I feel like I'm missing something else! (NO don't recommend Dr. Phil, he gives me the creeps!)

When we are at the parks we are commando... gotta keep it moving or the kids get fussy... LOL BUT we dont do the parks every day, and we even have taken trips with no parks.... but once we are in the park.... watch out! :teeth:
