Laptop & Video Camera. I won't need either of these on the plane but should I pack them? I have a messenger bag that only holds my laptop, would this be considered my 1 carryon? Thanks in advance for your expert advice!

You get one carry-one bag plus a personal-bag. A laptop bag (or anything else that fits under the seat in front of you) counts as your personal bag.

I agree, definitely place them in your carry-on. And be prepared: your laptop will need to come out of the bag and placed in a separate bin to go thru the xray machine at security.

Yes, you messenger bag will be you one carry-one but depending on your airline, you may also be allowed to bring a personal item, such as a camera case or waistpack.

I travel a lot for work and pleasure and I NEVER check my laptop. It is just too risky for me.
I have a wheeled laptop case that is large enough to also pack my prescription meds and a change of clothes in. I use that as my carryon.

Now that I think about it, it would be REALLY stupid to pack my laptop or any other valuable. Last trip to The World, we arrived in Laguardia and my moms vanity bag was missing so we got a call the next day saying they "found it", when she got it home, our video camera which broke on vacation, was gone. We were S.O.L., lol, they claim no responsibility.

I can have my hubby carry it, he doesn't have to lug a purse and a carry on ba with all the necessities mom remembers to bring!

One more question....Can I have a container of wipes in my purse when boarding? It's one of those plastic bottles with the pop up handi wipes, there is no liquid in it really.

As most have said, don't put valuables in checked baggage. Also, the xray machines for checked bags may harm film (if you haven't moved into the digital photography age) . For our vacation trips I usually have a wheeled computer bag (stuffed with the laptop, all our park tickets, reading materials, maps etc) and then a backpack full of video camera, still cameras film, etc. I really hate to carry both things, but refuse to leave anything behind. Also, keep in mind that the computer and the video camera will have to come out of their cases when you go through security.
