How do you think May will be affected by the 50th Celebration?

For all of us going in early May, how do you think the Celebration starting the 5th will affect the crowds, even before the opening date?

We had just made our plans for that first week of May... right BEFORE the big celebration kick-off on 05/05/05 was announced!!!

I too wonder how it will be at WDW. I am anxious to see the hours for May posted to see how that looks. (a poster on an earlier thread mentioned that DL would actually be closed on May 4th for preparations???)

I really want to stay AWAY from the hype!!!! On this trip, we are planning to take DS to the MK (not the other parks...), and we figure we should plan a couple days for that. The big thing that I want to see from the 50th is the 'Cinderellabration'. To me, that is classic Disney! And even DS will love this.

I keep hoping some CM's here on the dis may have some intuition.
1. How the crowds are expected to be.
2. Will Cinderellabration likely debue BEFORE May 5th. or, on May 5th, and not a day earlier.
3. How much 'Hype' (special events/presentations etc...) are being planned for WDW on May 5th.

It is still a little early yet, but I am definately going to try to keep on top of all of this!

We will be there the second week in May. I am hoping beause the celebration lasts all year that it won't be too bad. Schools are still in session so hopefully that will help during the week. We will just have to wait and see. I'm thinking if it is really crowded I will just have to plan a second trip back to see what I missed :flower1:

I am also hoping to go in and around the 5th of May, so I have been keeping an eye out for any posts on the subject. A lot of Disers who have been to similar events in the past seem to think there won't be a whole lot of effect on crowd levels. I guess it is hard to know one way or the other.

We changed our trip from the 1st week to the 2nd week in May hoping to avoid the increase in crowds. Not sure that will make much difference.

We'll be there May 1st - 6th. Honestly I'm not expecting much of an increase in crowds. Even though this is billed as a "worldwide event", the real focus of the kickoff on 5/5 is likely to be DisneyLAND. I expect Eisner to be in Anaheim, and that there will be quite a party at DL that day. But, logistically, it doesn't make much sense to try and draw the press to multiple locations at once.

I'm sure there will be some token ceremony at WDW, but I'm not expecting anything substantial.

I had read a report a couple months ago that press events at WDW were likely to happen the second week in May, which suits me just fine. WDW is hoping to have both Soarin and Lights, Motors, Action open by May, so they certainly will plan an event to show-off the new attractions. But I'm hoping that won't occur until sometime after the 6th. ;)
