Hi,
We have booked to return to the world in September and so far my kids have no idea !!
I would love to do something special to let them know that we have a new coutdown but Im a bit lost for ideas as to what ??

We did toy with the idea of not telling them at all util a couple of days before but Cameron will be due to go on a residential trip whilst we are away ad so he will want to know why he isnt going around June time!!!

Any ideas??

Keira is perhaps a little young - or maybe not - but you could post them anonymous hints over a period of time, say once a week or so. Starting with not so obvious and letting it just roll along until they figure it out. Since you have a few children it might be nice to address something like that to all of them and ensure that the 'mystery sender' explains that they need to work together without letting on that there is a suprise at the end of it. So it becomes like a mental scavenger hunt.

I toyed with the idea of doing it for DD, but dismissed it when I thought it might be more fun with siblings.

How about a treasure hunt? You could leave lots of cryptic clues, the prize could be a photo of you all at WDW or a holiday brochure etc. Or throw an American party, do American food, decorate your living room with USA flags, pics of you in Disney, play the National Anthem or Disney song as they walk through the door! :goodvibes

glad you have another trip planned Louise. Our two have always been part of the planning except when we booked last minute for October 2009. We only booked three weeks out so decided that we would wait until the morning of our trip to break the news. Only problem was that DS came home asking if he could join his friends for the first bout of independent trick or treating. Told him no - he went into melt down (this was the Thursday night before we were due to go on the Saturday) so we said 'thought you might prefer to go here' and gave him our tickets for MNSSHP.

DD cried, jumped up and down and then seriously ran to the loo because she genuinely thought she was going to wet herself (never knew where that saying came from :) )

DS even though 11 at the time did a 'Kevin the Teenager' and said although he would love to go he felt cheated that he hadn't had a say in the planning and felt foolish that he hadn't guessed (GRrrrrr) took himself off to bed (unheard of) and then when the shock had worn off (about 2am) came in bouncing on the bed in excitement!!!!

i think the ticket for not so scary halloween party would be good.
or a boarding ticket for the flight out to florida in there school lunch box ?

Oooh you're good Les! You know, Louise, you can have a mosey over onto the Creative DISigns board and ask one of the DISigners to make you some vouchers for packed lunches. How cool! :thumbsup2

Or MNSSHP tickets if you want to see their faces when they realise.

If I had kids I would love to surprise them on the night before/morning when your leaving for the airport! I'm sure it wouldn't be the right choice for some but I always loved that idea and I want to do it when I have little nieces and nephews :goodvibes

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! :lovestruc

Hi
We did a treasure hunt for DD's birthday trip to DLP a few years ago, which we did about a week before we went. Had a party the day before and thought there might be protests if no-one slept over! Didn't quite believe it even when she got the final clue, and look of the surprise sinking in was priceless.:yay:

Couldn't get away with it now though, especially for WDW as she is so much part of the planning and enjoys it with a passion. Has her packing list done already, circulated us with a questionnaire for our "must dos" for the trip and keen to know when we can ADR. Don't know whether to be proud or scared!

I like the idea of putting something in there lunch boxes.....although the only downside to that is your miss the look on there face when they find out!

other option, when they bring their lunchboxes back home, you could ask them why they didnt finish all their lunch, then slip it into their lunchbox before they look in it.

we dont have kids but i did do something similar for DH's birthday. i posted his present to him, and it was the confirmation email, brochure and dvd for our disney cruise. i got a very excited very confused phone call when he opened his mail!
