How do you take your money ?

We are going back after 4 years, we have always taken cash and travellers cheques, have been told to take prepaid card now as travel chqs not widely used anymore.Just wondered what the regular visitors on here take ?

If you are staying onsite, travelers checks are still accepted, but you'll want an alternative form of currency for venturing outside of Disney.

FairFX is a popular choice as far as prepaid cards.

I used to take my money in vapors forms so it wasn't all tied up in one card or in one place. In the last few years the fee free Post Office credit card served me well and gave me interbank exchange rates. The Halifax Claroty card is also a popular travel credit card choice.

I use a multi currency card that I can top up online (think I got it through Travelex). I travel alot so I find it really useful as I can tranfer money between difference currencies as I need them. Use it to pay for everything except tips which I did in cash

We take a small amount of cash for tips and tolls but put everything else on our Halifax Clarity or Post Office credit cards. You could just about manage without any cash at all!

Last year we took a FairFX card and some dollars for tips. FairFX had an app, where you can monitor your balance and top-up.

Small amount of U.S. $ in cash for small purchases, then we use our Post Office credit card as full protection against any fraud plus you get interbank exchange rates with no extra fees or charges applied we also link this to our Disney account so when in DW we can just happily use our magic bands.

We take all of our money in cash! Completely crazy I know, but it hasn't caused us a problem yet and is easier to divide between tips, Universal money, Disney money, Walmart/shopping money etc. We used to use the FairFx card, but had a bad experience on the day before we left for home as a till malfunctioned at downtown Disney, so a large payment went through 3 times, we phoned FairFx straight away, but were told that it would be 24 to 48 hours before the money was back and available to spend, as we left the next day it was a bit of a pain, but in fairness stopped us from spending more money!

So its cash for us.

Some prefer cash but you pay a % in conversion plus travel insurance only covers a small amount.

Travellers chqs are still widely accepted, travel agents will tell you otherwise as they want you to take out their cashcards.

I found a quarter in my purse the other day. I kept it.

As Wayne also said, for those taking it "all in cash" - be very careful to check your travel insurance; most insurance policies will not cover you for a significant amount of cash (and ditto your home insurance for the time preceding the trip).

I found a quarter in my purse the other day. I kept it.

I have never been mega rich but I did used to have 2 florist businesses plus do the buying for 2 more, it wasn't uncommon to have £15,000+ in the safe. The odd time when tired I would put money somewhere rather than opening the safe and forget about it. I remember once clearing out my socks and finding £2,000.
Unfortunately these days I only have one shop in a village so those days are long gone, now using the savings from those days to fund todays trips.

Hey, Ok I'm going to do a serious post this time.

I personally take a very small amount of cash no more than $50, pretty much purely for tips. I have a Halifax Purity card. It gives me a perfect exchange rate but I have to pay the interest. I have a direct debit to pay it off every month so the interest comes to 0.5% for me.

My boyfriend likes to use the post office pre-paid card (he changes GBP to USD which is then loaded onto a card, its not a credit card) however he doesn't get as good of an exchange rate.

Just pointing out for the benefit of those who don't know, but the Post Office prepaid card is not the same as the Post Office credit card. The credit card has no fees and gives the interbank rate. If you pay it off by the due date there's no interest on it either.

We leave home with :
$200 cash per person
2 bank debit cards (DW's and mine)
2 prepaid credit cards (main and backup) Cashpassport (travelex, I can top online 0 fee)

In Florida
Wdw spends are charged on MB, balance settled with prepaid CC
UOR spends are paid for using a gift card loaded from prepaid CC
Offsite spends = cash for small amounts, prepaid CC for larger amounts.
Cash is withdrawn as needed
Prepaid CC is reloaded by my bank debit card when needed
