How do you stay at the Poly?

I've seen a lot of rave reviews about how great the Poly is, and I'm wondering how someone on a budget could possibly stay there? Especially if they have 8 in their party (one under 3)? Any ideas? How do you make it work?

Save up! And book with either a GP discount code or a PIN code. Going during value season helps as well. But with 8 people, you will need 2 rooms.

When DD and I stayed at the Poly in 2010, I had a 40% off PIN code and we went during value season. I'd love to stay there again, and I'm sure we will someday, but this past trip we stayed at CSR to save money because we were going during regular season and the GP discount I got was only 30% off. I'd given DD the choice of WL or CSR (really hoping she'd choose WL), but she chose CSR.

I don't know where you have stayed before, but if you are interested in other deluxe resorts, you could consider renting a reservation from a DVC member. You would then be able to get a two bedroom villa somewhere (instead of getting two rooms) that would have a kitchen and laundry in your villa.

Me too. We went this past Feb and it was FANTASTIC! I'm really having a hard time staying somewhere else this next week, but the finances just are not there for two Poly trips so close. But we will be back for sure. Can't beat the convenience of the Poly. More transportation options than any other resort with the TTC right next door. Just a magical place to stay. I hope you can find a way. Maybe do a split stay with a less expensive one, just so you can say you've been there and experience it.

you have to save up for that sometimes the extra income is the main thing -- we stay value but that is what our budget will take to go the length of time I want to go

you spend want you really want so if the high dollar resort is what you want then that takes the top part for us it is more time in the parks

My guess is they don't.

^THIS!!

Staying at the Poly is definitely on my (our) bucket list. We are going down end of November and have free dining at POR. The same stay at the Poly would cost me more than twice what I'm paying at POR. With a family of five, airfare, and all the costs associated with a trip like this, even with free dining, there is just no way on our budget we can justify spending $3,000 more to stay at the Poly.

For us, we'd need to identify this kind of trip probably 2-3 years out and then start some kind of vacation savings for it, then hope for a great room discount to boot.

Someday, just not now.

I had a good AP discount. I won't pay rack rate for Poly. Way to inflated IMHO

We have been doing a value for the same reasons. This year I was able to book a moderate. Just switched yesterday and my 45 day mark is today. We go for 11-14 days so a deluxe is just out of our budget. Even a moderate is really stretching it for us.

For my family it's a matter of our income. When we were first married and had children we just couldn't afford it. Over time DH finished graduate school and got a better paying job and we can now afford it if we opt to stay there. Sometimes, for special trips, we slurge and stay at which ever resort we want, sometimes we don't. We've only stayed at the Poly once, mainly because we just don't feel the need to spend that much on our resort for every trip. The one time we stayed there we had a 40% off military discount, which helped tremendously.

If your heart is set on it, but you just can't afford it, the best thing to do is skip a few vacations and save up for it.

Staying at the Poly has been on my bucket list!! We are heading to WDW in sept to stay at AKL using our DVC. Got a 35% room only discount from a previous stay, so we used it to book 2 nights at the Poly before AKL. Not a long stay, but at least we will be there! I've already laid down the rules with my family that we will only go to Epcot and MK (so we can use the monorail!) and most of the time, we will be enjoying every aspect of the resort!! After we get to AKL, then we will hit the parks hard :)

We eat at their restaurants but we probably will never spend that much on a hotel room. With 5 kids (only 4 of them Disney travelers now), it's never been in our budget. Even if it was....I doubt we'd feel comfortable spending that much on a room, even with a Discount code. Now AKL.....that's a dream of mine :) We plan on eating there on our arrival date this year....I hope it crushes my dreams of staying there in some way or another LOL Maybe it won't be as 'magical' as I'm thinking...right?!!?? LOL

I figure we're too 'strange' to stay anywhere but the POP with our matching shirts and Tie Dye Mickey's LOL.....we just fit in at the POP.

Lots of people are on a budget. Their budget may just be more than yours.

When we plan trips anywhere, I look at our finances and set a budget. This directly affects where we stay and how long we stay there. Getting a good discount (40%) during Value season was pretty much the only reason I got to stay at AKL on my honeymoon. Oddly enough, we ended up paying a very similar nightly rate to stay at CBR, because it was regular season and the discount wasn't as good.

I only expect to be able to stay at the highest priced resorts during a really short or split stay in the future. MAYBE if we get a 40% off again, but even then it will be pushing it, because pretty soon we're going to have to start paying for things for our kid(s) which will stretch what our budget needs to cover.

I have only stayed deluxe with a really good discount. For my family to stay at the Poly, no discount could ever be good enough because the resort simply doesn't do it for us. For that kind of money, we'd treat and stay somewhere else. JMO Now we own DVC, so staying on points makes staying deluxe better.

Seriously, if you're on a budget, don't even consider staying at the Poly. It is waaaay overpriced, even during value season. We actually did stay there during value season, with the "Buy 4 nights, Stay 3 Free" special they had at the time. That was the only way I could justify the cost. And it was still a lot!

You are going to really penny pinch because you are going to need two rooms.
I was able to stay at the Polynesian twice because during those times, the discount was better and the rate was a little better (I think.) I haven't been to Disney since 2005 and I know it has gone up and the discount is not as good as it was before.. with that being said, I don't think I can do the Polynesian again. I am happy with the moderate and value resorts. :)

I forgot to add that I don't stay deluxe the whole time, I split with moderate or value. My stay is shorter at the deluxe and longer at value/moderate.

We stay at the Poly all of the time, but don't have a budget.

I think if you go on a budget, it's all about saving up and being smart by going with a 40% off code.

I hope you get to stay at the Poly really soon!!

I traveled with my mom and split the costs of the room (after a 40% off discount) with her. :) Otherwise it probably I couldn't have justified the cost.
