How do you split your stay?

I am confused. (not all that unusual :) ). We had res. for Nov. 18-25 at POR. Due to unforseen circumstances we have to change our dates. I called Disney and changed. We are now checking in on Nov. 25 and out on Dec. 2. The day after we check in the rates go down from regular season to value season rates. At first I wanted to try to check in on the 23rd and out on the 26th (when the rates go down) then back in on the 26th-2nd. The price she quoted me on the phone for doing it that way was over 1000$ more than the figure I got when I made the 2 separate res. online. On the phone she said she could do it under the one conf. #, somehow I don't think something was right. We had 10 day park hopper in both cases with dining. Her price included the dining for 9 nights. I thought it would be more economical to make 2 separate reservations, taking advantage of the value season rates for the nights I could. How do you go about splitting your stay? We are a family of 5 so the most cost effective resort for us is POR. Can I make back to back res. at one resort, does it have to be separate resorts. Also can you get the dining plan with a room only reservation? If you make 2 reservations how to you buy the tickets? With the first res? or the second? And what about the dining plan, can you get it for all nights? What is the most cost effective way to do it? Have I confused anyone else as much as I have myself? THanks!

I don't know what will work out more economically, but I can answer a few questions that may help.... I hope. :)

Yes, you can have both reservations at the same hotel. Have them note that it is a "continuing reservation" so there is less chance you will need to switch rooms.

No, you cannot have the dining plan with a room-only reservation. You also cannot 'extend' the DP from your package days to cover the room-only days. You could book both portions as packages, though you'd have to buy at least the one-day ticket for EACH reservation. (That might be worth it if you save enough.)

Which res to get your tickets with? Well, you will *have* to buy at least one-day tickets with the DP package part(s) of your trip. You don't *have* to buy tickets with teh room-only portion, but if that happens first, you will probably want tickets for those days.......

Is it possible that the $1000 difference was a mistake? I'm thinking that maybe the 10-day tickets you mentioned might have been added to EACH portion of your trip instead of just one?

All in all, I'd try calling back. If the price difference was due to the ticket mistake I mentioned, then all is good. If not, then you can either book online or see what options the CM has for you.

Thank you for the advice to call again. I did, fixed everything, and saved that $1000 plus buckaroos. I knew something didn't sound right, don't know what happened the first time, but sure glad I called back. :cool1:
