How do you see the community board? *Inspired by another thread*

Teens have their own forums here on the DIS.

so do families, budget minded people, people with disabilities, GLBT people, etc. I don't think that means they are ONLY allowed to post on their respective forums:confused3 I sure hope not--I post all over the darn place:rotfl2:

Unlike those other groups, by process of elimination, there is no other place for discussions with no other socio-appellation.

I think some of the problem comes when kids/teens misrepresent themselves as adults.....

I also tend to cut them more slack if I know they are younger.

But, that's the problem. Some of them do come over her and post. That in itself is not a problem, but sometimes they will give wacky suggestions or comments and you go, "Huh???"
Then after a couple minutes you realized, "Oh that poster is a kid. That's why they thought that."

In real life, we would see the person we are talking to and we'd know they are a kid or teen and naturally would cut them some slack. But, unless they have pictures of Edward, from Twilight, in their signature, you generally don't know they are a kid.

I wish the kids and teens had to have an icon next to their screenname which clearly indicates "Child/Teen member," until they turn 18.

Well, it *is* the Community Board. I take that to mean that all are welcome to post here and none should be made to feel unwelcome.

agnes!
PS - And I'm with NHDisneylover...sometimes I post all over the darn place as well.

Bicker--I can usuallt decipher what you mean with all your high dollar words. I understand all the words (though I admit to have never seen social groups called "socio appellations"--I see appellation and think wine:lmao:) but with the triple negative and also "process of emlination" thrown in, I have no idea what you are getting at! Can you try again please?:flower3:

See-I think it would be very ufair to the many mature teens out there to have such a signature. Why? Because, sadly, many people automatically assume the opinion of a teen does not carry much weight.
I also disagree that you can always tell a teen is a teen just by looking at them. DD12 has been mistaken for someone in her 20s several times--and for DS10's mom now twice!

Not Bicker (by a long stretch), but I took it to mean that the Teen board is unlike any other DIS board because (by it's name and resident posters) it eliminates all BUT the teen age group.

I'm sure Bicker will correct me if I'm wrong. lol

I like this idea! :thumbsup2

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get that. :headache:

Whew! I'm glad someone had their universal translator working. :teacher:

Thanks for the attempt at interpretting:thumbsup2 I still do not see how that works:confused3 There is a UK board, which is defined (by the DISdiscrioption on the board lists) as for UK visitors, and one for Canadians as well. This in no way means UK or Canadian residents are not welcome on the CB. Nothing about the CBs description ("Join our moderators in a discussion forum for any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly :) ") strikes me as excluding any group (well, other than unfriendly people I guess:lmao:).

agnes--I am glad I am not the only one who posts all over the place:goodvibes--maybe I should go say hello to the teens on their own board. I bet if I am friendly and respectful they won't have a problem with it (in spite of what is said upthread:upsidedow)

I know the CB isn't an adult play-area, but I do tend to think of it as one.

But I guess I see the point (assuming I understood the point correctly that is lol) because there are non-UK people and non-Canadians posting actively on those boards because they have an interest, relatives, a trip coming up, or just plain like the folks on those boards. With the teen board, however, there would be far less chance of anyone other than a teen wanting to post there.

I think of it as more of an adult forum but I don't have any problem engaging teens on here. I don't think there is much here that a tween would want to read let alone comment on so I don't really feel the need to censor or be mindful of young posters.

I agree. I do not think the discussions should be watered down at all for the benefit of our underage visitors--I simply think that visitors of any age who can handle the discussions with maturity should be welcome. imabrat often has some of the most well though out responses on a thread (there may be otehr teens too who are not even on my radar AS teens:))

I sort of see that point, but I have almost posted on the teen board to ask an opinion about what to buy for a gift, or on a program I was considering offering when I was a young adult librarian. Surely people do that once in a while:confused3 Actually, we will be having a 17 year old Austrailian student here on exchange for the two weeks including Christmas. I AM planning on posting there to ask for good ideas of inexpensive gifts I can have under the tree and stocking stuffers.

I guess I do not like telling any group of people that their ideas and input are only welcome in their own isolated place and not to the group at large. That feels discriminatory to me.

I definitely don't think that the teenagers should be forced to post only to the teen forum. I was just trying to help interpret. Now watch me be wrong. lol :lmao:

Not trying to be mean, I just found it really funny that the poster that said this has a picture of Harry Potter as their avatar. :rotfl:

Honestly, I don't care who posts on the CB, and I'm not trying to make any kind of a point. Just found that genuinely amusing :)
