How do you say these words? Merry, ferry, very and strawberry?

I say:
merry - murry, as in the male name.
ferry - furry, as in a little furry animal.
very - vary, as in something varies.
strawberry - strawbury, as in to bury something.

I wonder why I say vary and not vury?

I also say just as jest. Like: I jest got back from the store or I jest finished eating lunch.
