What do you call the patch of sand on the waterfront? The beach

The long piece of furniture you sit on in the living room? A couch

Denim pants? Dungarees or jeans


Carbonated beverage? Tonic or soda "sodah"

In my part of town we call all carbonated beverages "coke". We'll say "What kind of coke do you want?" (Missouri)

And I thought of one, though this isn't exactly something that comes up in everyday conversation: What do you all call the creatures that are found in creeks and kind of look like miniature lobsters, but gray? I know of 3 names I've heard them called around here, but I always refer to them as "crawdads."

Around here - crawdads, crawfish, or crayfish, depending on who you are talking to.

My best friend's DS calls them "AAAIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!" as he is running away as fast as he can.

northwest Oregon, in the burbs of Portland... I think the specification matters as Oregon is very big and diverse.


Also, pop vs. soda vs. coke:
Most of the time I will use "soda" rarely will I use "pop" never will I call the general soft drink a "coke." If it's an actual Coca Cola I am wanting, then yes, I will call it a "coke."

Same thing goes for tissues and kleenex.
