Considering Shula's for a nice meal during our trip....then can stroll back to Boardwalk! Would love to hear your reviews of it? Anything you especially recommend? The 2 hours free childcare that they offer, should you book that when you make PS?
Thanks

Excerpts from our 10/03 trip report:
If you haven’t eaten at Shula’s before, they serve in teams of 2. It appears to be an excellent system. Our what I would call primary (or lead) server was Danny. He was great. Maybe the best server we have had anywhere at WDW. He explained the menu, did the spiel with the cuts of beef, covered the specials, and got our drink orders, everything to perfection. I can’t say enough about the level of service he gave us the times when he was at our table. On the other hand, the secondary server, who I will not mention by name here as it brings me great pain, was horrible. We knew we were in trouble as he came over to take our order, when Danny walked by (going to another table) with the beef cart, he said to ‘tell them about the soufflé, I didn’t mention it’. We already knew about the chocolate soufflé for two, and no, Danny hadn’t mentioned it, but we thought maybe he would when they took the entrée order. This other server ******* then turned to us and grumbled, “So do you want the soufflé?” Expressionless face, no description of the item, no explanation about the longer cooking time needed, nothing, just a terse “So do you want the soufflé?” After this exchange, and his general lack of enthusiasm when dealing with us, we dreaded seeing this guy, and unfortunately, he was serving our table most of the night. For more examples: he ‘snatched up’ and took away my almost empty bloody mary without asking if I wanted another, while I was sitting right there. Our drinks (soda) were completely empty (twice) before they were refilled, and at one point he psuedo-chastised me for getting butter from the bread plate on another plate, that he had to take away. When he did attempt to communicate with us, he was looking around the room while we responded. Words cannot describe the general disdain with which we were served. It really was that bad, and totally unacceptable in a restaurant as upscale, and costly, as Shula’s.
As always the beef was superb. We had the oysters Rockefeller and Stone Crab claws for starters this time, also excellent. Again I must note, Danny’s service remained flawless when he was at our table, but we had much more contact this evening with *******. We ordered the chocolate soufflé dessert, which was to die for. However, when the bill for $140 came, ******* service was so poor, and his attitude even worse, that for the first time at Shula’s, we did not leave a 20%+ tip. I wish there was some way to have tipped only Danny.

I wasn't that impressed by Shula's. We went last November, and the steak wasn't any better that I've had before and definitely wasn't worth the price. I've always been extremely happy at Le Cellier, so that would be my suggestion.

You should always try things for yourself though, maybe you will love it!

We went to Shula's in Dec. 2002 and were not very impressed. The Steak my wife and myself decided to split was very dry and had zero flavor. You have to order ala-cart here on all items so if you go you will want to split. I also did not like the fact that we were charged $10.00 for splitting the steak what a rip-off.

It is simply the beef on property. Shula's is better then Morton's. I'm a carnivore. I love my red meat and I have not had better. The service is excellent and the portions are HUGE. When you price it out and order smartly it is not any more expensive then YSH.

My husband and I love Shula's! We go every time we're at WDW, which is usually twice a year. It all started in 2001, when we vacationed with my parents in Disney. It was the week after my husband's birthday, and our birthday tradition is to take the other couple out for dinner. We'll, this year we decided to wait until we got to WDW and they let my husband choose where he wanted to eat.

The meal was great, and now we're hooked! But, boy, we're they surprised when the check arrived!

So, to summarize, it's expensive, but so worth it! We are big steak fans and their tomato and gorgonzola salad is delicious. We usually ask to split this (no extra $$) and also split either a potato or veggie.

Give it a try...I don't think you'll be disappointed!

We didn't think it was that great. I don't mind paying for quality food and service but we felt we were in a glorified sports bar for much of the evening, Between the hokey football props(yes, I do know who Don Shula is) and the just okay service, we would never return. I suppose it could have been an off night. Threehearts

The atmosphere is very dark and "manly". The food was very good, but expensive. Service was a high point. DH and I split a steak, and were not charged the $10 fee. Perhaps becaues we also ordered appetizers, desserts, sides, and several rounds of drinks each. I'd go back, but am not running to get there. DH doesn't really have any desire to go back. He didn't dislike it, but said he can get as good of a steak at quite a few other places for less money.

Atmosphere is "mens clubbish", service is "correct" w/o being Disney friendly. Meat is primarily their stock in trade and it is excellent.
Oh--their beer list is quite poor.

Warning long and negative.......I just returned a couple of weeks ago from a long (18) WDW trip, 2 adult women who have worked in the restaurant business most of our lives. We ate at many fabulous places on this trip. We had eaten at Don Shulas a couple of years ago and recieved less than stellar service, disinterested is the best way I can put it. We thought because of all the good reviews here, we would try it again. It was the only low point of our entire trip. First they had our reservation time wrong, I figure, possible...no biggie. We waited, patiently, near the host station, they aked our name 10 times!!! By now, my friend was so aggravated, we almost left.We were seated right next to a kitchen door (other tables available where parties of 2 were sat right after us). The amount of commotion going in and out of the door made it feel like we were seated in an emergency room.Chairs being dragged across the floor, very stressed waitstaff whizzing by us. No effort at all to keep noise level or rushing past us down....I work in a very family orientated restaurant, and even in that kind of sometimes crazy enviroment, this would not be acceptable, never mind in a fine dining restaurant. Then we were delivered the wrong appetizer. The butter brought with the bread was almost drawn butter on the plate it was so soft. After requesting more butter, twice, another plate of butter was brought, again close to liquid. Then our tomato salads wer brought out with tomatoes hard and unripe that they were hard to cut!!By now my friend, who is less patient than me, left for the ladies room. She actually went into one of the stores right there in the lobby to cool down a bit she was so outraged by our experience so far. She started chatting with a store clerk and shared her story who promptly said that her experience was not unusual. When she returned, our filets came we ate some but by now we we sooooo uncomfortable, there was no way we could enjoy anything and could not wait to get out of there. We were supposed to eat the next night at Palio but we literally did not want to cross the bridge from the Boardwalk over to the Swan/Dolphin so soon after our bad dining experience. Whe I called WDW Dining to cancel, she asked why I was cancelling, and I gave a brief summary. She suggested I let our concierge staff know what happened. Once I did that the assistant manager from Shulas called me and I recounted this tale. Of course he offered us another dinner to make up for all this which I firmly rejected. We talked for some time on the phone but given all the great places to eat at WDW we will not be going to Shulas ever again.Bad once, shame on them, bad twice shame on me.Sorry about the length of the post and the extreme negativity, it made us sick to our stomachs the whole series of bad stuff and really the only negative thing out of our 18 days.Thank for letting me get this out and done for good on this place!!
