How do you put someone on ignore?

Highlight and copy their user name (this is easier for me than remembering it). Open up your User CP then select Buddy/Ignore Lists under Miscellaneous. Paste their name in the box under Ignore List that says "Add New User to List" then click on "Save List".

Anyways...

Go to your UserCP and then at the bottom of the list on the left is buddy/ignore list. Click on that and the type in the name of the user you want to ignore. You have to spell it exactly (I think it's case sensitve too). Some users have spaces or underlines in their name so make sure you've got it right.

Click on the ignoree's public profile and under their avatar, there is a black strip that has the options. One is place them as your buddy and the other is the ignore. I use it in a few cases and it works.

Well that kinda defeates the purpose in a sense doesn't it. Since more that likely a person is putting a controversial person on ignore and more than likely that post will be quoted.


Like I said though, I've never put anyone on ignore and doubt I ever will.

I just read what I want to read - skip over what I don't want to read - and only respond to what I want to respond to.. Isn't that what most people do here?

I don't use the ignore feature anymore. I used to use it for folks who would put abusively large graphics in their messages and signatures (which really causes problems through my RDP connection to the Internet), but with Firefox's Adblock add-in, I can ignore just the graphics themselves, and that has addressed the problem completely.

I have used ignore so I don't have to scroll past a humongous signature block, or one with grapics/pics that gave me the creeps.

Then I figured out how to disable everyone's signature, so I didn't have to use ignore.

That's what I was going to say! My problem was with the slow downloads due to signature pictures.

Well, that's the beauty of the system. You can do it your way, others can ignore if they want the option, and no one has to pass judgment on how someone else chooses to do it.

Not specifically directed at the poster I'm quoting, but the "who uses ingore" discussions always annoy me a bit because there seems to be a contingent who thinks because they don't use ignore that no one else should.

Why would anyone feel the need to opine on or dictate how someone else reads the boards????

The ignore feature would only work for me if it really ignored - instead of teased -- That guy who is making you crazy has posted something probably mean or crazy again....don't you wonder what it is......???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm??????"
