My DD and I were talking about our upcoming trip to WDW. My DD mentioned something about the lines and pronounced this word as you would say the letter "Q". I corrrected her (as I am the Mom :goodvibes ) and said it was pronounced like "qui" rhymes with the word "we". She says "no" it is pronounced like the letter "Q". Who wants to settle this debate? Thanks.

I think your daughter is right. It's pronounced "kyoo".

and it's actually spelled "queue." The term "queue" is used more in British English, while the word "line" is used mostly in American English

If you are talking about a queue like a line for a ride, I have always heard it pronouced like "Q". I can be really bad at pronunciations though, I think I talk to fast ;)

"Queue" is the word for a line and its pronounced like the letter Q.

"Oui" is the french work for "yes" and is pronounced like "we."

According to Webster's "que" is:
\Que\, n. [Cf. 3d Cue.] A half farthing.

Hope that helps settle things!
Leslie

The letter Q, sorry the daughter wins this one. ;)

queue (pronounced kyew) also known as First In, First Out

Ask the UK forum about how to pronounce it! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. Now I will have to send this thread to her so she can see that not only was she correct  , but that I also spelled the word incorrectly   . We are huge Disney fans, I dont think she will let me forget this too soon :rolleyes2

Alright linguists...

Can someone tell us how to pronounce the name of Disney Cruise Line's private island and port, "Castaway Kay?"

;)

Sorry for the juvenile humor, but I had to read this three times before I realized it said FARTHING ... I kept seeing it without the H and it was confusing me as well as cracking me up :rotfl:

Alrighty...

Pronounce "quay" as in, "The steamer wheeled right up to the river quay."

And then there's "cue."

The actor sat backstage and waited for his cue.

Or you could always pronounce is "kway way." A few years ago my best friend and her family were going to a local park and she was telling her mom about some program that lets you skip the "kway way" . . . she went on and on and her mom finally stopped her, "what are you saying?!" She spelled it out and her mom laughed, "Oh! Queue!" (pronounced Q) My friend had been in the middle of Latin classes, pronounced it as it would have been pronounced in Latin. :rotfl:
