How do you pay your bills?

All electronic. The only reason I know checks still exist is from my rewards programs.

This last year, I counted that I used only 25 checks. 12 of those were for rent.

Otherwise, either online or call it in if I'm cutting it close

Online except for House Ins. They don't accept online payments. Grrr.... When it comes up for renewal, if they don't accept online payments, I will switch to one that does.

I pay everything possible as a automatic draft out of my account. The rest I go online and pay. My water bill is the only one I have to do in person.

I pay most by check. A few are automatic withdrawal, but I do not like those. I would like to do online, but DH thinks that would be too expensive. I don't really know what it costs to pay online. Who charges you? Your bank/credit union? I think it would save me a lot of time (I do all the bills each month). Could someone tell me how this works, and what type of fees to expect? Thank you.

I pay about 2/3 online and I do not pay anything to use online payment. The only checks I write are for little local places that do not have online payment options.

Most banks today charge nothing for online bill payment. You just sign up for it, set up your payees and click away. If you use Quicken, as I do, it really is just an 'overlay' as such, for record keeping, a little bit more tracking, etc, but it still use the online banking system of my bank. I can select the amount and day of payment for any payee at all. If I want, I can set it up to be repetitive or manual each time. Again, no cost, zero. I would think I save over a hundred dollars a year just in postage. Check out what your bank offers.

my bank charges $5.00 a month for bill pay. you just log-in and then decide how much to pay and when to pay it and click the button and the bills are paid for the month. I even pay local bills like dance lessons. I would like to pay school lunch money, but haven't got that one worked out yet. The only bill I have to pay locally is the cable bill because they never seemed to be able to credit our account when I paid on line, but thats the only one I have ever had a problem with and we have been doing this for 4 or 5 years.

Most of my bills are automatically charged to my credit card (gotta earn those ff miles!) Anything else (including my credit card bill) gets paid online. I write 2 checks a month - rent and car insurance (neither accept online payments). My student loan payment is an automatic electronic debit each month.

Another on-line bill payer here. I pay the majority of my bills on-line, except for things like my semi-annual bills for taxes & life insurance and annual bills like my real estate taxes & car/home owner insurance and pre-pay oil. Guess I really should teach my DH how to do all this, in case I'm not around someday!

I've got my 19 & 22 yo DS's paying their VISA bills on-line. Guess I should see about getting their car insurance payments set up that way, too.

I feel so much in control doing my bills on-line. I can see what my balance is to the penny in my checking account and I can see when my bills are actually paid.

Car payment & mortgage are automatic drafts. Everything else, I do through online bill pay.

ONE bill by

, the rest via the internet. It's wonderful ~ limits postage.

Mostly I pay online. I love the online because I have a receipt that I paid and THEY RECEIVED IT...no more lost mail.

When we refinanced they stuck us with a company that didn't have online payments...GRRR:mad: Has anybody else been upset when they got stuck with a company they couldn't pay online???

I do write a check for groceries still!

99% online through my bank's billpay feature.

electric company thru their website.

only checks i actually write are for the doctor, vet, and school pta stuff.

Me. I don't like companies that won't let you pay online.

Most of my bills are paid online in a service similar to Dan's. My service will issue a check to anyone who does not accept EFT, so my propane bill (to a tiny ME company) is paid online, too.

The only checks I write are annual ones that I want a paper receipt (property taxes, car registration, etc.).

I love online payment because I control the amount and when it is paid. We don't allow any other vendor direct withdrawal access to our accounts.
