How do you "own" either Jambo or Kidani at AKV?

I've seen---or I think I've seen---people on these boards talking about owning at either Jambo House or Kidani Village. I thought you just bought points in the resort itself, not a particular part of the resort.

When you buy into AKV, do you buy into either JH or KV? How does that affect your ability to use the AKV facilities in general?

No, you buy into AKV and can book the DVC rooms at both Jambo House and Kidani Village.

People are just commenting on the specific unit # that their contract specifies. It's meaningless in most cases, unless your specific unit was destroyed in a fire.

I think DVC sales referred to "owning at Kidani" once on our tour. Intentional or not, people could easily come away thinking that there is a difference (if only on paper).

As DVC Mike said, your deed is tied to a specific unit. The biggest difference was those that purchased in Jambo House could use their points much earlier than those that purchased at Kidani, because your unit has to be open and operating before the dates of any trip - whether to your home resort OR another DVC resort. Just as other resorts opened in phases.

But Jambo and Kidani are considered one DVC resort.

If your unit is taken out of service for an extended period of time, due to fire or other major damage, you could loose the ability to use your points until the unit re-opens. If your unit is not "worth repairing" any insurance proceeds would be distributed amongst the owners of that unit, and they would cease being DVC members. You could also be given a special assessment if they do rebuild your unit, and insurance doesn't cover the necessary costs.

Well...let's hope that never happens.

... unless they also owned additional contract(s) at another unit (at the same resort), and/or another resort. If that were the case (and this is true of most members), then they would not automatically cease being DVC members.

This is true. The bulk of my points (310) are in bldg 14 at OKW, but one of my small add-ons (35 points) is in bldg 44, so if bldg 44 gets demolished and not rebuilt, I lose those 35 points, or if bldg 14 gets demolished, I lose the 310 points, but still have a 35 point membership.

well, I own 270 points at Jambo and 50 points in Kidani. I can still book at either building at my 11 months usin all or some of my points. As long as it is all AKV then I am good.

I think that just as often people were commenting b/c there was a difference in purchases and when points could be used.

My points are Kidani so that means I couldn't use a single one of them until a couple of days ago. At one point when there was cross over of the sales there also was a difference in if you'd get previous year points or not. Kidani had started to be sold and some people where waitlisting for Jambo points if they weren't immediately available b/c they could still get 2007 points.

The fact I own Kidani means no more to me than that. At least as long as nothing happens to the building! ;)

So, isn't there insurance that is carried by DVC to ensure that a unit will be covered in the case of fire, hurricane or tornado?

And wouldn't that insurance cover a compensation from unused years on your contract, prorated of course? Kind of like your house? Being a real estate interest I would think it would work that way.

I think the only real-world (non-catastrophic) effect buying at Jambo versus Kidani is that if you opt to buy at Jambo, you will receive 2008 and 2009 points, where as if you buy at Kidani you will only receive 2009 points. You are treated the same after that point regardless. :goodvibes

Hmmmm....Our contract states Kidani. I have a December UY, and I received December 2008 points. We bought a year ago.

That's crazy!:scared1: I never even thought of it that way.
