So, here's the story. Last weekend I talked to my friend in St. Louis. As many of you may know there had been some weather related problems, hundreds of thousands without power. My DF had been without power for 3 days before it was restored. We talked for awhile about how miserable it had been with the heat and humidity when she told me....

They were going to WDW! Leaving last Sunday, coming home tomorrow. I was so excited for them! The last time they were at Disney was about 12 years ago! The trip was to include DF, her DH, their adult DD and her DS (aka DGS). So the conversation goes something like this...

"Since you don't like the heat, why are you going to WDW in July? Why didn't you go in Nov. or Dec."

"Oh, it won't be that bad. If I could survive the last 3 days here (St. Louis) Florida will be easy. Plus someone told me they have those misty things everywhere at the parks, so if I get too hot I'll just go stand under one of those."

"Are you on the dinning plan?"

"No, we decided we didn't want to do that."

"Did you make ADR's?"

"No. We decided we would just eat when we are hungry where ever looks good. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from."

Ok, you get the idea. By the time she told me their first day there they would have to go to the beach for a few hours to kill time until they could check-in at the CR, I was biting the inside of my cheek. I did tell her that she could check-in early, leave their luggage with the bellhop, then go to the parks, but I'm not sure she was listening.

So how do YOU keep from laughing at your friends, at least keep from laughing where they can hear you? :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: And does anyone out there know what the weather has been in WDW this past week? Just wondering.

Your friend is exactly the reason I was so happy I found these boards before my first trip.

I hope she had a good time!

My DF went a few weeks before me and emailed me that she didn't go on Mission Space because she had heard how it makes so many people sick. I had to email her back to see if she had heard they had changed the ride so you could ride on it without it spinning. She never responded about that comment. Something I would not have known if not for these boards.

our friends went last October. I had everything planned out ......YOU name it I told her. Which ride was good for her grandkids....which ones SHE could go on ...How much each place would cost them to eat. (she is very very cheap) so she comes home and then commences to yell at how much her double cheeseburger cost....and on and on. I said......I told you how much each food item would cost. Besides where in our state could you get a hamburg as big as the ones at Disney with fries for that amount. NO WHERES. She still yaps about the prices in Disney were horrible and that she didnt have a good time....I did tell her GOOD.....

Hand her a guidebook. Maybe if it comes from something "official" and not from you, she'll listen more.

HOT! The radio has been saying it's in the 90s. With the heat index it feels like 100! It is very very hot! And it will stay that way for a while, August is hot also!

It made me smile and I enjoyed reading it and the replies

jmskinner... I hope she has a good time too! But I know she would have enjoyed it a lot more if she had gone at a cooler time of year. She is warm blooded to the point that in winter she has been known to sit on her porch barefoot!

pumba... If I had known they were going I would have sent her some info, but didn't find out till the day before they were leaving. Probably just as well I didn't know. You know the old saying, you can drag a horse to water but you can't make him drink.... of course you could always drown him! :goodvibes

mking624... Don't think giving her a guidebook would have helped. In the 12 years or so since she last went to WDW she has said she really didn't want to go back. She doesn't totally understand why my DH and I go yearly. Her DH has wanted to go back since the day of their first trip. If her last trip was planned like this one, I think I now understand why she didn't really care for WDW.

princess 22.... Yep, that's St. Louis weather. Difference is at home she would stay inside for the most part, not walk around parks all day.

danny1649... thank you.

Well just think, that's one less family you have to worry about at WDW. :rotfl:

mking624... You're right! That gets me on the rides what... a full 3 seconds sooner! Maybe I should stop telling people how great WDW is... then I can just have the place to myself! :happytv:

The only way to not laugh is to bite my lip. I hear this all the time since I am a hairdresser and have clients that come in. I had one last week who bought a one day ticket. They stayed off site. Her story was so funny. I gave her as much info as I could and she used known of it. She even had the nerve to say she was ready to leave and HAD to stay for the fireworks for her grandson although she was ready to go! The sad thing is she will tell everyone how bad it was but really did not experience the true Walt Disney World. :confused3

seven dwarfs... I know what you mean! It's one thing if someone doesn't like something, it's another if they don't like it because they never really gave it a chance! A one day ticket to WDW?? and she was ready to leave before the fireworks? only stayed because of DGS? You're right, she probably will tell everyone how much she hated it.

I did forget one little piece of info on my DF. She doesn't like to get up before 9. Chances are they didn't get to the parks till noon. And like your friend seven dwarfs, when she comes home she probably will say she didn't really like WDW.

But what can you do? Bite the inside of your cheek and pray she doesn't hear you laughing! :goodvibes

Let us know how their trip went... :teeth: You never know though, maybe they had a great time. :)

I hope they had a good trip!

That reminds me of a mom I talked to, who had just gotten back from their WDW trip "well, it was OK, but we really don't do rides" She didn't seem to want to talk about the experience at all, so I could never find out exactly what they did do there, and what 'rides' they didn't care for... :rotfl:

Last November my aunt and uncle went with us to WDW. It was their first trip since 1982!!!! They know exactly how crazy we are about all things Disney and what pros we are about going there. We booked the airfare--$300 per person and the rooms--$85 per night for 9 nights. They never once complained about the cost of these two things. My DH and I are 100% sure we told them multiple times how much the tickets would cost. Since we needed a 9-day ticket and the Disney Store didn't sell them for that length of use last year, they ended up purchasing their tickets at DTD. They completely freaked out when they were told the tickets were over $400 for the pair. Jeez, 9 days of fun for a little more than $22 per day. They couldn't even get a day at Hersheypark for anywhere near that price.

My DH and I couldn't stop laughing about them actually contemplating not getting tickets after they had spent somewhere near $1500 to get to WDW and stay on property.

Anyhow, we all had a great time--but we haven't invited them back!!!! :)

HeeHee!!! :rotfl2: Got to LOVE uninformed Disney folk!!!

Like mking624 said ... one less family to worry about!!

People are so predictable! That's why DISers can get their touring done early and rest in the middle of the day!

I had a friend who is very smart in most things but refused to put time into preparing adequately for Disney. She took her DH and two DDs to WDW a few years ago and came back very unhappy. When I asked why she didn't like her trip she complained mostly about her resort, a Fort Wilderness cabin. I could have told her that was not the place for her! This is a lady who needs room service, sit-down restaurants on site, spas nearby and every modern convenience. They would have been far happier at the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary and they definitely could have afforded either! Now I'm not saying anything is wrong with Fort Wilderness but it was not the place for her and if she had picked up any book or looked at any website or even asked someone like me she would have known this. Now she vows that they will never go back and that's a shame for her two daughters who are under age 18 still!

It's hard not to laugh at this woman when she talks about "her trip" and how Disney was so awful! I actually have to work with her once in awhile.

This guy was not a friend, but when we were at Disney in June we were having lunch at Roaring Forks and this guy behind us in line was just going off on how miserable his vacation was and he was so tired of waiting in 2 hour lines for the rides. I asked him why they didn't use fastpass and he looked at me like I was stupid and said he had no idea what that was. My sis-in-law was laughing and wondering (after we sat down and he wasn't around of course) why people didn't do a little research before their trips. Plus if you get a guidemap to the park, right there on the first page is all about fastpass. We used it and I think the longest line we waited in was for the ladies room.

I live 30 minutes east of St Louis and I will say this about the heat...It is very hot and humid in the STL area. For the past week and through next week we are looking at temps in the high 90-100 with very high humity making the heat indices 105-115 :sunny: , so I can see what she saying about the weather. BUT, if you are not use to being outside during that time, 90 degree weather at WDW is going to be hard to handle. Hope she ends up having a good time.

I work with a girl who's fairly new to our school and when she told me they were going to WDW for their honeymoon this summer, I was so excited for her! I said "Great! Where are you staying??" She said..."Ummm...I don't know, it's the one with all the buildings."

Yikes. It's her honeymoon, you'd think she'd know! School starts next week; I'll be anxious to see what she thinks!

I want to hear the rest of the story. I assume they've returned and I love to hear their reaction.
