How do you make your own Wedding Website?

I would love to make a wedding website where all my guests could go to find information about the wedding and about Disney. I have seen a few people on here do one as well. I was wondering how you make your own website, I have never done so before. Is there a way to make the website private, (like you need a password to enter it)? I would really appreciate any help, as well as to see anyone else who has done a website to get ideas. Thanks!

I have mine through mywedding.com, it's free and really easy to use with nice templates and you can set it to be password protected. If you do a search on the Internet you will find lots of similar sites but we went with this one as I was already looking to buy invitations from wedding paper divas and their designs are included as some of the templates for the mywedding.com sites.

I totally recomend doing a website my guests have said it's been really useful so far and it's really easy to update it with news and changes etc.

I also used my wedding, because it was free and had a lot of the features of the paid sites. Oh and the website address is not ridiculously long. There are plenty of pages to add all of your info. It was really easy to set up and everyone has been really impressed with it. I did do the two week trial with Wedding Tracker (the Knot paid site) but it didn't let you copy and paste and I found that annoying and they didn't even have the domain name we wanted so it wasn't worth it.

For My wedding you have to use their templates, I have not heard of Disney templates and I think it's unlikely given copy right issues and things like that. If you are having a wishes wedding Disney gives you a website but it's really not very "Disney" either and you can't customize it much.

We used theknot.com--also free and with lots of features and cool templates. I've never created a website, and I found it very user friendly. It also has password protection, which is important to us because DF is a high school teacher! :lmao: We placed a link on our wedding website to the website Disney provided us with our Escape package, which is pretty generic, except it has the link on there for the discounted park hopper passes!

Our guests have loved it and we're also sending out the info in our announcements for people to see pics!

Thanks for this useful information! Does mywedding.com (or any other free site that you guys have used) allow you to use their templates but upload them on your own site? I already have a domain that I could use but would like the ease of having pre-made templates. Thanks!

i used theknot.com it was simple to set up and i was able to put any pictures, information, and links i wanted on there. you can not add anything except disney stuff to the disney site and we are having a post wedding "extravaganza" on the carnival cruise line for a week (much cheaper than the disney cruise! so more people can go!) we are able to keep our guests up to date on everything! and the guest book feature is fun!

I decided on mywedding because it was free and the link was nice and short. I look forward to adding more information as the planning moves forward!

We're using Shutterfly - it's free and I love it so far! I find it really flexible to use and the stuff you can put on there is great (e.g. Orlando weather, Florida time, GBP to Dollar Conversion, etc...)

We're also password protected ours, just due to the amount of personal info and photos that are on there...

We flat out made our own. Didnt like the Disney ones, and we are web people anyway :)

Our site is still up, though I took down a lot of pages/info that we had up originally...

http://www.ourmagicalwedding.com

we only password protected certain things, but certainly we could have done it for the whole site.

I LOVE yours! I wish I was computer savvy enough to do something like that. I really want a Disney template. :sad2:

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. I am going to go start one right now!

Thanks so much for this thread, not computer savvy at all but would love to set up our own wedding website, this has reall helped!

Wedding website here I come!

I agree, thank you! I used mywedding.com too. It's so easy compared to other sites.

i just made one using onewed.com. I liked the templates the best and it was pretty easy. The only thing is that i wish it was more customizable with music, etc. I havent looked at mywedding.com so ill go check that one out incase i like it better.

We made our own too initially through moonfruit.com and then I bought our own domain name and attached it. It took an hour or two to work out how to do things, and then it was really easy. Our site is www.mattandnessa.com

You should know that there are plenty of wedding website providers.

There are two kinds of them,

Trial versions (where you just try it for a day or two then you have to pay)

of Free versions which are truly free but of course they have a more 'advanced' with extra features paid versions. You can check out the link in my sig.

This is truly free.

You get a subdomain and hosting but of course it has a paid version (only $14.99/month) where you get a full domain, hosting, and other great features. Hope this helps!
