How do you know when clothes are too big?

For pants, if I can take them off white buttoned and zippered ~ then it's time to get rid of them.

For tops, I think ~ if it makes you look bigger than you are, get rid of it.

I have 4 bags of clothing (mostly new with tags from the dept stores still on them) taken from my closet. I am going to try eBay to see if I can recoop some of the money that I spent of the clothes.

I have already sent 30 shopping bags to a local charity, and to give brand new designer clothes away, makes me queezy.

How do you determine if something is no longer part of your wardrobe and what do you do with the clothes?

:wave2:

Great problem to have, Laurajean! It is hard to keep a wardrobe that fits while you're changing.

My closet is jammed full of stuff, but I'll bet only 10% of it is stuff that I can wear now. I've taken some to charity, given some to friends, thrown lots away... but there's still so much JUNK in there! Between what's too big, what's not flattering, and the "what the heck was I thinking when I bought THIS" stuff, there's not enough room for the clothes I need now.

I've been trying to go through it a bit at a time. I ask myself, "Would I buy this again today?" If the answer's no, I'm supposed to throw it away. But then an annoying little voice will say, "But it cost so much!" or "But the tags are still on it!" or "Maybe so-and-so would like this!" or "But remember that time you wore this..." And then it goes back in the closet.

Maybe I need to get you to come help me weed through. :p

If you can get a good picture to post, Ebay is a good option for your new with tag clothes, especially nicer labels. Large size clothing does well on Ebay. More money for trips to Disney, or new clothes for you! Diana

I plan on going through my closet this weekend and anything that is two big is going out of my closet.

I am going to try eBay to see if I can recoop my expenses back.

But, how do you determine if something fits or not? What is your method of madness?

I have already posted this before but I had a co-worker to tell me that "Sheila, it looks like a WHOLE family has moved out of your pants!!"

I took that to mean that it was time for new pants!!!;)

for jeans - if I can wear the next size down (even a hair snug) then it's time to move down. For me roomy, loose jeans are too "comfy" and creates a false sense of "I can eat whatever I want!"

I have three pairs of jeans that I should've gotten rid of before Dec. I kept them and now they are the three I'm wearing! After I lose my next 5 lbs they are outta here!

I have gotten rid of lots of sweatshirts and zip-up jackets recently; don't forget to get a new coat or jacket too! I feel kinda lost in some of my bigger fleece zip-ups!

OH! and jammies!!! treat yourself to new jammies when you move down a size!! Big bulky jammies aren't a good idea during that late night snack-temptation time!!

For shirts - if it's loose and baggy along my sides and arms, time to go. I like the theory of if you look bigger in a particular shirt than in others; dump that shirt!!

I'm trying to eBay some clothes too - not having super great luck. do you all find that gently used clothing doesn't go for much?

My Mom (alreadyexcitedGrammy) has taken lots to a local consignment store to recoop and then shop for new smaller clothing!

Anything else goes to a second-hand clothing store (donated) run by Mom's church in which they resell cheaply and the profits are donated back to charity. I am very blessed and I feel lucky to be able to give back to the part of my community that is not as fortunate. (But i'd try eBay or consignment first for clothing new with tags!)
