My kindergartener gets driven in the morning and takes the bus home. There were too many factors for the morning. Younger sister has preschool right after elementary school starts, new baby, and she's the only kindergartener on her bus - one first grader who is on the bus randomly, a few 2nd grade boys and a lot of 4th and 5th graders. She wasn't very comfortable.

DS17 walks 1 minute. We homeschool :goodvibes
In public school he rode the bus for an hour & he was not the 1st kid picked up.
So it was up at 5:15 am & home by 3:10 pm :rolleyes1

At one point they had a bus driver who did not allow the kids to sleep or do homework on the bus--you'd have thought she'd want the li'l darlin's well occupied

In our community you have to pay for your children to ride the bus, 200.00 yearly!
Although we paid this, he cannot make the bus and doesn't want to, he claims that there's too many kids* on the bus and besides him there's only one other Junior that rides the bus (who he claims is never on), so I take him, anything that will get him to High School! pirate:
He's bored with HS and wants to get his GED so he can go to college-
(he already has a college picked out and is going to outside Orlando)
good choice, I may add- closer to the MOUSE for me!!!! :teeth:

Kids, they keep us on our toes, right?!!!!! :Pinkbounc :grouphug:

8 days until 2 weeks in FL! :yay: :hourglass :hourglass :hourglass

DH drive DS14 to the high school. It's right on his way to work, and about a 5 minute drive. DS rides the bus home (takes about 40 minutes - lots of stops) if he's leaving right after school, or walks (also about 40 minutes) if he has activities after school.

DD12 takes the bus to middle school (about 20 minutes), and DD6 takes the bus to the elementary school (also about 20 minutes).

I've driven them everyday since the start of 3rd grade when we got a new school and all the kids started having to ride a bus. That was 5 years ago.

Edit: I shouldn't admit this, but I actually drove them to school before this too and we lived, UMMMMM............. 3 1/2 blocks from the school.

Wow I am shocked at how long some kids ride on the school bus! I couldn't imagine riding 40 minutes on a school bus to and from school every day!

Wow so many of you live very close to school. I grew up in a rural area. Well until it became the fastest growing county in the nation. We always rode a bus and it was for at least an hour. Hmmm. Thanks :wave2:

That's my DD! I offer to drive her or pick her up but she wants to be with her friends. On the way to school she is on for about 15 minutes but on the way home she is on for a little over and hour.

DD16 takes the bus to school...we live about 5 miles from her school and she needs to be there by 7:15...that's too early for me to get every one up and out the door. In our town, in grade K - 8 if you live 2 miles or more from the school, you get free bussing. In high school, you pay no matter how far you live, so I pay for her bus ($200/year).

For DD8 and DD5, I carpool with my friend. We live about 1 1/2 miles from the primary school, so no free bussing. I don't mind driving them to school and it
makes it easier when you have someone to share the driving with.

I drive them. I used to wish we had a bus, thought it would be easier. Then I read all the threads about bullies on the bus, so now I'm glad my kids don't take a bus!

The twins walk, DS13 rides his bike in the spring/fall but I drive him in the winter. We are a bit over a mile from his school and for some strange reason, not on the bus route :confused3 .

We usually drive them. The bus swings through the neighborhood at 6:30, but the kids are rarely ready by that time.

I voted "other."

I have two kids in two different schools.

DS (11) goes to private school and there is no bus service. Before I got to work, I drive him down to my neighbor's house and her husband then drives him and their DD to school.

DD (14) is in high school but goes outside of her district so we do not have neighborhood bus service. We have "express " bus service, meaning I can drive her up to our local elementary school and a bus will come there and it will take her to her high school (after making many more stops). The bus comes too late for me. So, I drive her about 5 miles away to her friends house. They, in turn, get a ride to the "express" bus stop in the friend's neighborhood and ride the bus in.

Confused?

I use to drive the kids to school every morning and pick up, but since we moved they are in public schools. On most days I walk with my youngest to the bus stop and from there it takes less than 10 minutes to get to school..same coming home. My older son at one time rode his bike which was fine except on rainy days but I didnt like him crossing a major busy road. This year the highschool has a bus so he takes that. Later this month he gets his license and will be driving.

DS is a senior in high school and drives himself. So, I voted other.

I take them. The school is only a few blocks out of my way to work. He has to be at school at 8:50 and I have to be work 8 so it works out well.

I drive DD in the morning. Her school is 20 miles away and the bus leaves at 5am . In the afternoon she normally takes the bus.

I drive DD, we have no other choice. We are slightly too close for a bus (not that I would send her on the bus anyway) and too far to walk with too many turns (6). When it was nice, I took DD in the bike carrier, Kdg are not allowed to ride bikes. Next year, I may ride with her, but I cannot forsee a time when she will go on her own.

It take the kids to school for two reasons: One - because the bus arrives too late for me to make it to work on time, and two - because I hated taking the bus to school when I was younger. Waiting in the rain and snow for the bus stunk! Lugging projects and books stunk!

The kids take the bus to their day care after school. They actually love the bus, especially when they sit in the back and th ebus goes over big bumps. Their bus has seat belts and they are required to use them.
