Ok I am trying to poll so bear with me if it doesn't take. My question is simple how do you children get to school. Also how long does it take? Actually this thread goes hand in hand with another that I will be posting and actually need answers for arguments sake. Thanks

Sometimes my son takes the bus which takes an hour to get to school. Sometimes either our neighbor or we take him to school, which takes 30 minutes.
Ft. Myers has school choice, so your school may not be very close.

DD's elementary bus takes about 10 minutes to get to school after it picks her up. The middle and high schools are farther, so I would say 20 minutes for them.

I drive them..... Because I am too lazy to get up any earlier, this way we all sleep in for another 1/2 hour. They would walk otherwise. They do walk home unless I am off from work, which is usually 2 days during the week (I work weekends instead).

We homeschool--so I marked other. However, if we were in school this year at a regular school, she would be driven by me. If public school--at older ages, she would walk or ride a bike. No busses available until high school as we have neighborhood elementary and middle schools.

Ds10 rides the bus, and gets to school @ 15 minutes after pickup.

Elementary school -- I drive DD to school and she rides the bus home. The bus takes about 15 minutes to get there and it makes her just a little late, so I take her earlier since she likes getting there early enough to eat breakfast. She rides the bus home because parents picking up their kids have to wait until 3:15 until after the first wave of busses have left, and it's a total zoo. Takes up to 45 minutes to get home that way, as opposed to about 20-25 minutes on the bus.

High school -- sometimes I drive DS to school (same place as the elem. school), but mostly he rides the bus both ways to be with his friends.

I wasn't sure if I should put other - because I don't take them - DH does -- I have to be to work by 6:00AM so he drops off and I pick up

Our girls are 5&6 and a few years back a little girl was abuducted on the way to a near by school -- so even though it is probably only 10 blocks away - he drives them.

They might start riding bikes when they are a little older and have a few more years of self defense under their belts

For elementary school, my kids walked. It's only two blocks away and when they were younger, I stood on the corner and watched them walk over the railroad bridge. At the other side of the bridge is school property.

My teenagers ride the bus to middle school and high school (one building for both)

DD12 walks, her school is about 2 blocks away straight down the street. She only crosses two small side streets.

Every day aside for Thursday my Mom takes me to school. On Thursdays we have a late start day so my friend comes over and we goof around, then she drives us both to school.

I had to vote twice.

My DD11 takes the bus to middle school.

I drive DS7 because he goes to school where I am a teacher.

I take my DS-6 who is in kindergarten. We live a block away from the school and there is a path from our street to the back entrance of the school grounds. On nice days, we walk (takes about 5 minutes). On bad weather days (or if I'm being lazy  ), I drive him (takes about 1 minute).

I usually drive them in elementary school. My son in junior high rides the bus. We live very close to the elementary school, yet are seperated by a 50 mph road so walking is not an option. For some reason they are the first bus stop in the am so they would have a 35 minute bus ride. We'd rather sleep in and I drive them in about 3 minutes. When I work, it's at the elementary school so they come with me. On the way home, they're the first stop so they ride the bus for a few minutes.

Wow so many of you live very close to school. I grew up in a rural area. Well until it became the fastest growing county in the nation. We always rode a bus and it was for at least an hour. Hmmm. Thanks :wave2:

We just make the requirements for a school bu...the house next door has to walk but my daughter gets the bus..we are the first house 1/2 mile away from the school so she gets to use the bus...she only has to ride it all of 5 minutes...it picks her up, makes 2 other stops and brings them to school.

I drive my son to school. His school is across the street from my office and the hospital where I admit patients. It is about 10 miles away from our house and it takes 15 minutes or so to get there. It is a Catholic school. Interestingly, there is a bus for a different Catholic school that stops right outside our subdivision, so, if he went there, he would probably take the bus. He has actually gone to this school since 3yo preschool, so, I am not likely to send him elsewhere. The other Catholic school is also about 10 miles from our home, and, technically, is not our parish, either.

My daughter is in high school and rides the school bus (no bussing for where we live until high school) I drive my son (3rd grade) to school on my way to work.

With my daughter who is 6, we walk to school. We are not in the bus zone as we live 9 houses from the school. I can see the school from my driveway. If the weather is bad then I drive her. My 11 yr old son takes the bus to middle school. Sometimes I drive him so he doesnt have to stand outside in the bad weather. The middle school is about 4 miles from my house.
