How do you keep yourself from knocking the head off your coworker?

Ok, so the title is a little extreme. I am just really mad at a coworker right now. A coworker tried blaming me for something that is clearly not my fault in an email he sent me and copied to the Principals of the firm. He and another employee dropped the ball on something and instead of taking ownership for their mistake, he tried to pin it on me when I'm the one that initially brought the mishap to their attention. I retaliated in the email and defended myself very well. But I am just so furious for his little stunt and copying the principals on the email. He was deliberately trying to get me in trouble for their screw up. It didn't work! :rotfl:

I have a hard time holding grudges against people. What do you do when you're mad at a coworker but still have to deal with them in order to get your job done?

I treat them civilly & professionally, but nothing more. I don't socialize with them, either before or after work.

Any "dealings" I have with them, I make sure I document in writing, and if possible, get them to "sign off" on the documentation.

I had a boss many years ago who tried to screw me in the worst ways at work. It got to the point where I would memo her on any discussion we had or any directive she gave me with the request that she initial & date the memo, so I'd have proof that she had actually told me to do certain things. Otherwise, when they came up later, she'd deny ever having given me that directive. I wouldn't act on her directive until I received the signed memo back. It made my job a lot more time-consuming, but I had to do it to protect my job until the time was right for me to leave...there were some retirement benefits I was almost qualified for, so I had to stick it out for about 9 months with this woman inn order to get them, and she wasn't going to drive me away before I got htose benefits.

I think you handled it fine. There are lots of people out there that like to point fingers when something goes wrong and take all the credit when something goes right. I guess there is no easy answer other than doing your job to the best of your ability and being honest and hope that you are recognized for it. Good luck to you. :)

Please excuse my siggie pic. :rotfl:
