how do you get yourself to start eating less?

I KNOW I need to drop 5lbs, been needing to since the holidays! But how do I get myself to start eating less? Nighttime is very bad for me. Once I get home from the gym all I do is eat until bedtime!
 
well maybe you don't need to eat less ---- how many calories are you eating a day? i know you are smart in this healthy living thing, and not to overstep here. i know i have done so in the past so i'm going to ask. are you sure you haven't cut back too much and are in a starvation response?
 
Hi I know what you mean about a starvation response as before the holidays I noticed I could eat and eat and eat and not gain weight. But since the holidays when I gained back 5lbs I havent been able to loose it. I did get measured when I joined the gym Oct 1st but havent been measured since - maybe I should as I really might be gaining muscle! Ive been trying to eat about 2000 calories/day - trying to get myself to cut back to 1800 but not able to. Seems I get home from the gym, sit down and all I want to do is eat!
 
oh well -- 1800 calories is great if you can lose at that amount. that means your metabolism is fired up! i'm struggling on 1200 a day right now trying to kickstart losing!!

so -- how about a cup of hot tea? or something low cal that would fill you up. otherwise, maybe play a mind game with yourself. like you think, i'm hungry and it's 4:30 -- so you say to yourself OK if i'm still hungry at 4:45 than i'll have a 100 calorie snack, or carrots or the like. and try to get your mind off it and see if the time passes where you can then say, hey, it's really only 30 mins until dinner, i can hold out now.

i know what you mean about being hungry after a workout. i try to eat a protein food of some kind and drink water and just go to bed! it is hard! cottage cheese with fruit does it for me b/c i dont' LOVE it and when i'm finished with it i'm really done eating. it's got fabulous amino acids of some kind for muscle repair/rebuilding.
