Each time we have been at the MK there is a family on the train that rides in with the characters to open the park.

Does anyone know how you get to be that family??? Do you have to stay on site, get there early, win a lottery?

That would be soooo cool.

We got to open the park once. We were the first in line and made friends with a CM. We did also happen to have matching mickey shirts. They kept calling us the Mickey Family. DS also got to open toontown once by answering a disney question that the CM asked. That too was awsome. He got the key to Mickey's house and opened it to find Mickey standing there.

My DS got to open EPCOT once. We were first at the rope and just chatted with the CM. He received a certificate and we got passes for TT. I would also like to open MK. Oh well, maybe next year.

It's really totally random although they look for friendly families who seem outgoing! Arriving early does help (We aren't going to pick the family at 8:45!!) but there is no guarentee!

All right, thanks for the info. We have a real shot then.

My family is very outgoing, but they might not be if I have to get them there too early :D

My family did this at MK two summers ago. I got them up very early (according to them) for the early entry at the MK. We were at the bus stop at the BW at 6:30-6:45 made the first bus and as we pulled up to the MK NO ONE was in line! We were the first. The 3 kids got to pick th magic words to open the park "Bibbidy-boddidy-boo" This had been discussed on many trips before "just in case". They each recieved magic wands, a ride up Main Street in the fire engine, some magical mickey dust and a personalized certificate commemorating the occaision. I framed the certificate, a picture of all of us opening the park and the magic dust and gave them each this for the next Christmas. They all felt getting up early was worth it but are glad not to have to do it again! They think mom was happy with just once. This is my favorite Disney magical moment.
