Thanks all for voting and replying. I think it's neat to see how many people use the Disney Transportation.

I started a debate about this a while ago and it got quite heated. I am glad to see a few people on my team. I only stay on site and drive my rental car everywhere. I stayed at WL last year and took the shuutle to the world and I hated the Dis busses. Monorail and boats are fine but those busses... nothing is worse than spending 10 hours on your feet than spending 20 minutes waiting for a bus and then having to stand on the bus all the way back. I always have a seat waiting for me in the rental car!

We use a combo: rental car and WDW Transportation. I prefer to use DisTrans; if we drive, I'm the driver, so I enjoy the break, and it IS part of the magic to us. That's why we like the Monorail resorts, particularly the Polynesian - using DisTrans is so much easer there. "Por favor, ...."

That said, there are times I take the car because it makes things easier for us. TL/BB, for example; it's nice not to have to lug bags on the bus, and when we're done it is nice just to hop in the car and head "home". Also, as has been noted, DisTrans just doesn't work for resort-resort[-resort] routes.

To summarize: We love and prefer DisTrans, but a car gives us additional vacation freedom and options.

Several reasons why:
1. We stay at least part of the time off site on our visits.
2. We have four children ages 9, 8, 6, and 3
3. We appreciate being able to leave and arrive at the parks at our convenience (necessary with so many kids).
4. We found it very convenient even when we stayed at Ft. Wilderness cabins.
5. We find that we visit grocery stores and off-site eateries several times with all the children. We prefer to have a kitchen and washer/dryer to help make our stay more comfortable.
6. We always visit Busch Gardens while we're making a Disney trip.

Depending on where we park at the theme parks, we will ride the tram if it's a distance, or will walk to the front entrance if it's close. It's really no problem at all (except for finding your vehicle in the mass of others at the end of the day!), and we take our own stroller so there is not an issue of carrying the 3yr old.

Our family wouldn't do it any other way.

We fly in and always rent a car. We'll use the rental or take Disney transportation depending on what we have planned during the day; sometimes my husband goes golfing while I take our son to the park, and we always go to the outlet malls while there so having the rental car comes in handy.
