How do you get a room upgrade?

We booked a week at the CR for the week after Thanksgiving in a standard view garden wing ( requested a North Wing room ). We would love to get an upgrade to a room with a view but how and when do you request it. I'm assuming it is done at checkin. Also I haven't booked our flight yet but have a morning flight option and a late afternoon flight. Will my time at checkin have any bearing on being able to get an upgrade.

If anyone can give their thoughts or experiences especially for the CR at this time of year i would really appreciate it.

It's totally random...I definately would book the room type you want and not hope to get another....

No real advice to be given. It is just random, no real reason behind the given upgrades except for a CM in a good mood. Maybe try be very friendly and ask? It certainly can't hurt. Aside from that, book the room/view you can live with and be happy. How about some pixie dust for good luck?

I agree, book the room you'll be happy with and upgrade from there. Booking a room that you don't want and hoping for an upgrade is a good way to set up disappointment. Upgrades are not that common.

When you check in, ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available. If you are told no, ask how much it would cost to upgrade to a better view, as long as you're willing to pay extra. Sometimes there can be upgrades for purchase at much lower than rack rate.
