How do you get a room upgrade??

I have been reading hotel reivews on this site as well as several others and I keep reading about people getting free room upgrades. Can anyone tell me how these work and if there is anything that I can do to help increase my chances of getting one?

We are staying at the Coronado Springs Resort for 9 days in October. Standard Room with a water view.

Octtober is a pretty busy time with Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and the Food and Wine Festival. If you really want something different, you probably ought to pay for it.

No really sure what you're asking? You already have a water view. Minor upgrades (standard to pool view) are common. Major upgrades to a suite are rare. Upgrades to another resort are also very rare. There really isn't anything (within reason) for you to upgraded to.

Decide on your preferences (location, floor, bedding and smoking) and fax them in. Only about 5% of the rooms are king. Requesting a king room will probbly preclude any other requests.
