I've gotten form thank you letters similar to that from adults before!
I think it's fine for an 8 year old, though I do think it would be even better if it included a space to write the item you're thanking them for on there. These days, any thank you note is a nice surprise.

Makes me happy because I believe that with good manners comes thoughtfulness and kindness to others and maybe, just maybe, he will remember those virtues as he becomes a terrible teenager.
, it was a form letter basically with To ____ and the kid filled in my son's name, then a typed note saying thank you for your gift and for coming to my party, I hope you had a good time. Then signed by the kid.
That's what we got @ SIL's wedding.
