How Do You Explain Your Love Of Dis To Others?

I love these boards - you must know that by now I say it enough and I just can't wait until DISCON2, but I was just wondering how your explain your love of this place to others? I know that when I tell people, family, friends and people at works that I'm travelling half way around the world to meet up with a group of people whom I have never met or chated with on the internet, that they will find it a little strange. Also in a recent post about a visit to the Adventurers club we were called freaks (in a joking way ) I know that we don't need to explain ourselves to anyone but I was just wondering what do you do? Even my DH finds it a little strange, but he has given me the thumbs up for DISCON2 so he must understand a little.

I've given up on trying to explain it. I've gotten too many confused, blank stares when trying to explain the DIS. If you're not a part of it, you just don't get it.

Most of my family puts up with me. Mostly cause I bring them home presents when I go off on my travels.

I've really never told them much about my DIS family. Though my brother brought me the coolest article about us "Disney-type" people. Said the article reminded him of me. It featured this guy with 1100 Disney tattoos.

He still doesn't understand my Mickey tattoo. Course I don't understand his John Wayne fixation, either.....

My neighbors and friends know that I am obsessed and I have to agree with what Debi said. They are starting to know better than to ask..... when a comment is made I will just say, "Been there, done that, going back!" and And I have told a few about the people on these boards that I met and say they are just like me When I can't be at WDW, I luv that I have found a place that can make me everyday. And if I'm ing then it's not such a bad thing. Right?

So how would you explain to your parents, friends and people at work that you are travelling half way around the world alone to meet up with people that you have never met??? I cant say that Matt is coming with me as we used to work at the same place and therefore he see's alot of people who i work with outside of work hours. My parents will just think that im mad and that travelling on my own isnt safe (im still there little girl at the age of 28 ) & my friends....well i wont even go there!

and im always telling stories..oh dana has a winter break,katie goes to private school, im meeting danile in marchand then ill add of they live in new jersey, philly and canada and ppl think im crazy!

I just tell them I'm going. They all think I strange anyway and to them my obsession with Disney proves it. But I know for a fact that NONE of them have 5 trips to Florida planned in the next 12 months. So go ahead let them make fun of me they should be so lucky to go away as much, if it wasn't for Disney I wuldn't travel so much!!

Just like with anything else, some people get and some people don;t. Well, most don;t, but they have given up on me! :rolleyes

My friends at work just ask when is my next trip, and guess what, any time someone is thinking about going to Disney, guess who they call for tips? You got it! So I think my addiction is starting to come in handy!

You may be traveling alone to DisCon Emma, but trust me, once you get thre, you will only be as alone as you want to be. There are so many mini-meets scheduled, that you can be be busy 24/7! Sleep is optional and when you are done, you need a vacation to get over DisCon!

I haven't met anyone a work that understands. They just give me that weird look and say why don't you go someplace else for vacation.

But they love me when I have advice on how to save money at the resorts or how to make PS or places to go parades, etc.

Oh well...

my reply is the exact same as RaySharpton's!!!

no one understands, everyone thinks I'm nuts, (atleast dh finally understands my DIS obsession, but that's because he's just as big of a disney addict as I am!!! thankfully! LOL!)

but, yet, so many people ask me to help them plan their trips, get them good rates, etc.... then they don't think I'm so nuts!!! go figure!!!!!!!!!

anyway, I stopped trying to explain, if they all want to think I'm crazy, so be it!!!! I'm happy!!!!

Fortunately, my immediate family tolerates my Disney obsession and loves me anyway. They're semi-Disney addicts themselves, but they'd never admit it. My mom, my sisters and their families are Disney fans, too. So I'm safe with them. Most of my friends just smile and let me have my fun-some get it, most don't, but they just accept it as my quirk. I have one or two friends (?) that can be down right rude about it, so I don't ever mention anything to them anymore. It's not worth it. They really don't get it. I had one friend who I helped with tips and recommendations. She came back and said I now know why you love it so much! That made my day!

I was asked by this guy where i was going for Spring break..i said wdw...and he likes it..we have had convos about it b4 and he goes gosh!
i was like yeah..we are also going june, early and alte december!

then he goes nto...do you get in free, do you know ppl...i was like no!

then he was like i wouldnt like to go that much..why dont you go somewhere else...i was too tired to explain i dont wanna go anywhere else!

like ppl have said..some ppl get and it and others dont!
