I have one hyper male cat that I need some new ideas for. I love to play with him but sometimes when I am studying or working I just need him to bugg off! Hes got all kinds of balls and mice, and even a hanging toy with elastic to play with. Hes got a female cat to play with but shes rather shy and not quite feeling confortable enough to play yet. What works with your cats?

This sounds horrible of me, but I have found the best way to distract my cat is to give her a pinch of catnip. She rolls around in it for a while and then she is a happy, relaxed cat. We call it her "catnip high".

We have a very high strung cat too. Sometimes, he'll play with our other cat but she's far more calm. We have one of those things they can climb on and he seems to love it (they both do). He'll play on that thing for hours. He also loves looking out the window and batting around his favorite mouse.

My cat is very Lazy.. You have to put toys in front of him in order for him to play... He does like Ice Cubes, if you don't mind a tiny puddle on the kitchen floor... paper balls or tin foil balls will keep him occupied for a while.. Catnip.. is very good too.. for Christmas.. he got a catnip filled monkey on a stick.. right now it is currently shoved in the couch cushion so when he gets close to it, he bats in a around for a bit..

You can try a dvd made especially for cats. We have one that has scenes with fish, mice and birds. One of our cats likes it a lot, but the other doesn't care for it at all.

I have a second cat! they dont awalys play nice. Hes not alowed to have catnip it makes him violent. Humm paper balls, I wonder if he would play or EAT them :rotfl2: I guess I should really assemble his cat tree again. Hey anyone know how to assemble a cat tree from fleet farm? I lost the instructions. The cats have perches in almost every room for some window watching. They have a huge toy chest in the guest room, a homeaid stool in the living room, nothing in my room, and a hole in the frosted glass covering in the bathtub. There spolied. Im lucky, hes napping right now, mabey I can catch a nap LOL. Hes watching me!

I haven't had a problem in several years, but when I was studying for my board exams, I had a cat that always wanted my attention. He got shut up in the room farthest away from me when I needed to study. He had toys, water, food and a litter box. I felt no guilt. He still had plenty of time to play with me when I wasn't studying.

Howzabout a dog that hates cats? :confused3

:teeth:

I recently adopted a hyper dog that gets along with my hyper-cat. Now the cat is tired of playing with the new kid and hides. :rolleyes2 Such is the life with a cat....

We are quite liberal with the use of catnip with our kitties. I swear by the herb.

You can also buy catnip spray/oil if you would prefer not to have little leaves all over your house. We like the spray oil and use that on their scratching post.

Bottle caps.
You can't leave a cap off your drink or kitty will bat it off the table and smack it around the kitchen for a while.

Laser dot.

Kitty will chase that thing all over the place for like ten or fifteen minutes. Then she gets tired of it and calms down.

She knows that it is coming from the thing we're holding. She even knows the sound of the drawer it comes from and any time that drawer is opened starts looking around for her dot to chase. But she ALWAYS chases it.

My cats do love the lazer. Unfortunately, so do the dogs. An 80 pound golden, chasing a little red dot, is an amuzing thing for the cats to watch.

A large cat tree really helps entertain them. I got one for less than $100 shipped on ebay and it's 6 ft tall. My cats also love the little foil balls; they will bat them around for hours. And this is something I got the cats for Christmas. You can't see in the picture, but it attaches to the door jamb with a flexible v-shaped hanger and then the mouse hangs down with elastic. There is a safety feature, so if the elastic gets wrapped around them(or they pull really hard, the mouse detaches. Anyway, my cats think this thing is the best thing since tuna. They pull it into the room and then it snaps back and they jump, turn cartwheels, etc.
