Hi!

I have 2 boys, ages 11 and 13. How do you dress your kids (boys) on casual nights? Shorts, but not jeans right? Are T-shirts okay?

Trying to get their clothes together to see what I need to buy.

Thanks,
Deb

11 and 13 are to old to dress in shorts for dinners...I think its fine for toddlers but after that they should follow the dress code for everyone...and actually Jeans are permitted now.

Hi there I agree with deb 11 & 13 are too old for shorts I have 4 DS 16 DS 11 DD 10 & DD 6 The boys were basic Black or Khaki or navy pants I give the boys a choice between a great Hawiian print button or a golf like shirt. I know they say jeans are ok now but in 2 cruises I have never seen anyone in them on the ship. They can also change right after dinner into the shorts just a hop skip and a jump back to the cabin and your comfortable again. Sailing again june 19 on the wonder can't wait for pirate: night Have a great time :smooth: enjoy!!
LS

DD wears a dress and DS wears khakis & a polo shirt or button down short sleeved shirt with brown or black shoes.

We cruised beginning of May and DS13 & DS17 both wore either nice jeans or khakis with some kind of collared shirt... golf, Hawaiian or casual button-down. My only concession was that they did sneak in with sandals on before I realized it. The suggested dress code does discourage shorts and t-shirts in the dining rooms, even on casual evenings.
Have a great cruise...you will!!!

long pants and polos were what I saw a fair amount of on boys....even my own little guy.

Yes...I agree! Dress slacks and button down shirts/polos were the norm on our cruise last week. I never saw shorts or jeans. I have to admit that I forgot my sons dress shoes so he had to wear tennies! Oh well! That was the only thing I forgot, so I guess i did pretty good!

Hi Deb:

My 3 DSs, 12, 12 & 9 will alternate black & khaki Dockers with a collared shirt either golf shirt or hawaiian print or the look the older ones like now is a solid color tshirt and a collared short sleeve button shirt over the top. I probably won't even tell them jeans are allowed now, they are so used to dressing this way on our previous cruises.

Whatever you decide I bet they will look great!

All of you have me a bit worried. I'd thought I'd seen here that alot of toddlers did wear shorts. But now people are saying they've never seen shorts at all. My ds will be barely 3 at the time. He's outgrown all his pants, but is still too short for 3T, which is the next size up (yeah, ridiculous but true). I have 1 nice pair of 2T kakhis that still fit, and a tux from my sister wedding next week that I was thinking he might wear one night (too fancy for a 4 night??). I was hoping to not have to search for more 2t pants that are big enough for him, or for small 3t's. I could probably find some that would work if I had to. But they wouldn't last him more all winter if I got them to fit him now, and I'd rather wait till fall to get him ones that will last him through the season. Do you think he could get away with nice dress shorts in kakhi and navy the other two nights. Using the one pair of pants for all dinners and chaning him back to shorts after is not an option for my messy boy. I bought nice button down shirts to wear with both the pants and shorts for him. My daughter is wearing nice dresses every night, as am I, and dh is wearing kakhis and button downs.

Tink&squirtsmom, your 3 yo will be fine in shorts with a nice shirt. The OP has boys 11 & 13. Once they get above 4 years old or so, shorts are not appropriate is what everyone is saying. The tux will look adorable!!!

For my son, he wore khaki's and a hawaiian shirt.

My daughter wore capris with a matching shirt and sandals.

My DS12 will be wearing Dockers with either a polo or shortsleeve button down. DD10 will wear skorts or capris.

I am sure he would be fine in shorts at his age! We were so busy with everything and everyone around us, we really did not pay too much attention! And I am sure others on the cruise did not as well! It was too much fun to worry about what everyone was wearing! Have a great time!

I have my boys (ages 11 and 7) wear khakis and polo shirts, or dockers and polos. On Pirate night, I had them wear dressy shorts and tropical shirts. I had read that jeans are okay for casual nights now (I don't know how true that is) but I think jeans are too heavy for the heat and humidity of the Caribbean, so they'll wear khakis again this year.
