We plan to buy a couple of the mugs at POP, but I was wondering if you all just rinse them out or take some dish cleaner and a rag with you? I've been looking for a small bottle of dish detergent, but so far no luck.

What do you do?

I have always rinsed them out. Then after a few days took a hand towel and put some bath soap on it, gave them a good scrub and rinsed it real well. The bath soap has always gotten it clean with no residue.

But I've also gotten smarter! For coffee, I take my Starbucks stainless steel travel coffee mug. Each morning I go down and get hot coffee and no one has ever said a word.

You're suppose to clean them!! Just kidding, I do like PeterPanFanWDW dose to clean them. My DS is more worried about which mug is his :rolleyes2 than if they are clean.

My wife is addicted to the little keychain purell bottles. Since she'll go through one (or two) in a month's time, it's pretty easy to save and rinse one out, let it dry, and refill it with some Dawn. Since it doesn't take much more than a drop or two to wash out a mug, the little purell bottle should last a week without much trouble and it obviously takes minimal space in your suitcase.

What an excellent idea!!! Thanks for sharing. I will have to adopt that when I'm doing a longer trip or have more dishes/utensils with me.

I take a few Palmovive dish wipes to wash out our mugs. Work great!

I figured they must make this type of thing! Where did you get them?

Thanks for sharing the ideas!

I usually just hold the mug and the cover under the hot water spigot on the coffee machine before I refill it - gets it nice and clean! This past trip - I did take some Palmolive dish wipes, and washed them out in the bathroom sink at the end of the day.

You can get the Palmovive dish wipes most places. I got mine at Target. I cut one sheet into 8 pieces. Each piece is plenty to clean a mug or two. The more space I save in the suitcase the better! :)

Pack the dish wipes in a ziploc bag - keeps the soap on the pad nice and dry till use - and does not give a soapy smell to your clothes in the suitcases.
We like dish wipes too. :)

I use the Palmolive wipes too. Dawn also makes them. I pack it in a zip lock and reuse for several days-they are very soapy.

I use the Palmolive dish wipes too. Before I leave home I cut them in half and put then into a zip-lock bag. They work great.

I always have small bottle of detergent in the room but I also rinse it out before I put anything in. There is a rinse station where you fill them(at least there was at ASSp) I also used drink charms to identify our mugs

I bring detergent to wash it out in the room. At the food court, I just rinse them with water.

I do the soap wipes in the room and the next morning I rinse them with the hot tea water from the coffee station just for a final "sanitizing". Sure beats a couple years ago when I was cleaning out bottles, sippy cups, and refillable mugs! I also take a sharpie marker and put everybody's name on their mug and lid. Sure helped last May when we came home and DD was diagnosed with strep. Thankfully nobody else came down with it.

I use the hot water from the coffee machines, fill them up, let the hot water steralize the mug and then rise with water.

Glad I read ahead as this is exactly what I do! I LOVE the dish wipes and carry a few everywhere. My sil was impressed this summer when she had forgotten extra baby bottles for dear neice and needed to wash the one she had. Here I am to save the day LOL in our bag was an 8th of a dishwipe in a baggie. We used it all day and dn was very happy.

Needless to say Dear SIL's diaper bag is much lighter now with just one bottle (or sippie) and a few dish wipes.

I fill an empty 35 mm film holder with dish detergent. I also fill one up with Shout, for pre-treating dirty laundry. They take up minimal space in the suitcase, and with the snap on lids they have never leaked yet. If we go for 3 weeks even, I still have some left, because you just need a drop per cup.
