I just got my old highchair back from DH's aunt. The tray is covered with old food and crayon and it is not coming off with anything I've got so far. I'm currently soaking it with Crud Cutter, I've scrubbed it with scrubbing bubbles and lysol cleaner and a scrubby sponge. What else can I do since it isn't coming clean still ??

I've gotten most of the food off of the base, but she didn't return the straps with it either and I can't find it on the Playskool site to try and order replacements straps for it. It is an older high chair and depite the dirt, it is solid. (I got it for my oldest DD in January of 1997.) Aunt DS hasn't used it in at least 2 yrs so it has been sitting in the basement for that long with all this stuff on it.

I am giving it to someone else as a back-up highchair for the grandparents house so I have to get it clean.

Have your tried a Mr. Clean sponge?

Just use the bleach then follow up with a couple of good water washes afterwards.

I used to clean the highchair tray with Softscrub With Bleach and a scrub brush. It gets off all the crud and stains. As long as you rinse it really well (like outside with the hose), using bleach shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't used bleach because I don't have any and it would be 20/30 minutes each way even to go buy some. And Sadly I have no Mr Clean sponges in the house either....

Would dish washing liquid work better for the crayon than the cleaning supplies.

WD40 takes crayon off walls. I think you need an oil to fight an oil. I've had luck with orange glo.

Have you tried vinegar with some baking soda? Make a paste and let it set on the crud for a few minutes to soften. Wipe clean with warm water. I use this for grease on my stove.

Can you put it in the dishwasher? That's what we do with anything we think can stand it....

Sorry, I don't know about plastic high chairs.. the one we used was my dad's!!! :scared1:

For the crayon, try using a hairdryer to melt the wax of the crayon. After the wax is soft you should be able to wipe it up with a rag, most any cleaner will help with the color left behind.

I use baking soda and water mixed to a paste to clean the top of my stove. Maybe the abrasiveness of the baking soda will help scrub off the crayon.

For crayon, use toothpaste--the paste not gel type-takes crayon off easily--I once cleaned my living room wall with it and believe me it worked like a charm.

Yeah, WD40 for a lot of oil and grease marks :thumbsup2

I am also a huge fan of the citrus (orange) degreaser products. I use these to strip oil and muck from my bike chain.

Failing that

Acetone free nail polish remover will do a good job of crayon and marker pen mess and shouldnt harm the plastic.

For other mess, spray with dilute solution of biological washing liquid in a sprayer and allow to stand before wiping off with a hot water cloth.

I would probably use a steam cleaner.......I tend to use mine for a lot of jobs like this one.
