How do you carry your camera?

I recently picked up an Olympus PEN E-P3 for my trip to Disney World on Thursday.

It is a small camera but too big to be pocketable. When I plan to take a lot of pictures I will probably just wear it on a strap. However, when I am just out and about for the day I was looking for a good way to carry it. I wasn't planning to bring a backpack into the parks with me.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an easy way to carry a medium size camera around with me?

Thanks in advance for the help.

When possible, I try to avoid bringing a bag into the park just so I don't have to wait in line for someone to search it. I'l either use a camera strap or just hand-hold it. On a few occasions, I'll have it on a tripod with a shoulder strap.

However, I'm generally not going on rides for those occasions. It may be worth the hassle to have a messenger bag to put the camera if you don't want to hold it.

If I carry a bag, it's either a Timbuk2 messenger bag or my ThinkTank Sling-O-Matic.

I have neck/shoulder problems and don't like to carry things with straps for any length of time. I also don't like putting things under the seat during a ride. I find a fanny pack works very well for me. Hands free, keeps things close, and really only takes a minute to get your bags checked. I also keep a small, collapsable water bottle in the fanny pack and it is a great place to keep your sunglasses when your on a ride indoors. Wouldn't go to Disney without it!

I use a crossbody purse to keep mine in. I don't carry a lot of stuff in my purse at the parks, but the crossbody allows me keep my hands free - and my camera dry.

I carry my 50D on a Crumpler Industry Disgrace strap with a Lenscoat Bodybag on it. I rarely put my camera in a bag because my philosophy is that if I'm not going to use it, why bring it at all. And I can't use it when it's in the bag.

I carry my D7000 with the 18-200mm lens using a hand strap (the Nikon model). When I take the Sigma 30mm into the parks, I carry it in a pocket. I have used neck straps before but usually find those uncomfortable. Tying up one hand with the camera has not really been a problem as the strap is easily removed if necessary (I suppose it helps that I am left-handed). I am currently looking for a camera bag to consolidate my equipment and to use when I am carrying a tripod.

I use a CarrySpeed strap just like the BlackRapid (slingstrap). I love it because it takes the weight of the camera off of my neck and it is so fast to swing the camera up to take a picture. I bring a Lowepro 102AW slingshot to carry my gear. When walking around I use the stroller to carry the bag. The camera strap lets my hands free to deal with my 13 month old DD.

I take my D40 and 2 extra lenses into the park in my Slingshot 100. I will sometimes wear the camera around my neck on the strap that came with it (apparently I'm the only person who still uses the manufacturer's strap!). If I had a smaller camera (not quite sure how big yours is) I might see if it would fit into a hip pack if I didn't want to carry it all day....

Thanks for the advice everyone! The camera I am bringing is quite a bit smaller than a DSLR.

While it would easily fit in a crossbody purse, I think I would look odd carrying a purse. I may have to break down and go with the fanny pack idea if I can convince myself to do it.

For those of you with DSLR's, you need to try the Luma loop. It is the best strap I have ever used. With the luma loop I can comfortably carry my Canon 5d2 and 70-200 2.8 IS all day.

The company had to discontinue the Luma Loop because of patent issues with BR.

I was at Magic Kingdom again today and I can say with certainty that looking odd does not seem to enter the vast majority of guests. Go with whatever is comfortable for you. For the most part, I see backpacks as the luggage of choice.

If you want to bring a purse, I sincerely doubt that anyone else would give it another thought. Most people are busy enjoying their own experience, rather than worrying about how others carry their stuff.

Anyone use a ThinkTank Belt system at Disney. I've got the TT Pro Speed Belt, Pixel Racing harness and Digital Holster, plus a number of bags.

Was thinking of bringing it but don't want to look too much like a camera geek.:cool1:

I pack a Panasonic G3 these days, not much larger than your camera. It worked well with a Canon video camera wrist strap for a four day WDW trip.

I had been debating about this and the BlackRapid straps for weeks, then finally made up my mind, and found out they were discontinued.

Luma just came out with a new product that looks pretty cool.

I myself have a Black Rapid Strap and love it. I have not used it at disney yet but when i was last there i used my slingshot 202aw

We just got back from a recent trip to Disney. I carried my D5100 with the 35mm lens attached and a 55-200mm lens and flash in a Lowepro 102AW bag. I loved it. I've never used my DSLR camera as much as I did on this trip. The bag search wasn't a big deal because my wife always carries a purse and we have to wait anyway. The bag was comfortable and easy to get to.

As an ardent opponent of fanny packs, I can honestly say I wouldn't take one of those into the park. I can understand their use at a sporting event or concert where you're a working photographer. Seems a bit much for an attraction.

I just got a Black Rapid strap for my D7000. So far so good, I'll give it a good run next month at DLR.
