first time to disney and was wondering what people prefer to use cameras or viedo cameras? For those who take videos how do you cary them. what do you do when you are on the rides? if it makes any different there will only be myself and my son.

I voted that I use both, but I have to admit that the camera is used more often than the video camera. We have a small video camers and it has its own bag. We have always had someone in a stroller, so that is how we carry it and then take it on the rides with us. If you are going solo, you may or may not want to bring both all the time. Definately bring your regular/digital camera if you have to choose.

I bring both. I bought a camera case that I can wear like a fanny pack if I want so I can just wear it on rides. It holds both as well as an extra battery and tapes for the camcorder.

We take both. Well our video and digital are all in one. We got it last year before our trip to WDW. It was the new sony that does both. It's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, for ease of carrying things around we got the sony photo backpack. It's great for the camera and anything else you need to take along. We got ours @ best buy, I think it was around $50 and well worth every penny!!!

We take both. A fairly small digital camcorder (mini dv tape) and a mid-size digital camera that's slightly smaller than the camcorder. We carry a backpack, and inside the backpack are a separate camera bag and camcorder bag to provide cushioning & protection. This backpack also holds our passes, my money, and the few other essentials that we carry with us at all times. This is deliberately a small backpack so that we don't stuff a large one to the max so it gets too heavy. We just carry the backpack on all rides with us. On a roller coaster like RNR or SM, we just put our leg through the strap and set it on the floor.

DH keeps looking at the camera & camcorder units that have both, but I'm still waiting for a very good camera lens to be included and also waiting for the price to drop a bit.

video camera is the best for remembering and reliving the most important memories and reg camera is for character meetings.

I took both last time but I took my large pro-digital SLR (with lenses and big flash). I loved both the vidio and the snap shots but next time I will bring my husbands small camera. We often just put the camcorder under the basket of our stroller with lots fo stuff ontop of it - we didn't have a problem. Now the camera whent everyplace because it is a few thousand - harder to replace then a $600 comcorder. Now don't get me wrong, I would have been bummed to loose the camcorder but it was a HUGE pain to have on rides and with the camera BIG camera it was just plain stupid!

If I HAD to pick one it would be a really good quality camera though....

Go for both but go small:)

we took both. We bought the micky mouse back pack, it has one strap and is easier to wear then regular backpacks. We put the video camera in there, its a small video cam so at times i put it in my pocket. We carried the backpack onto all the rides with us so no worries about the cameras etc. Also take advantage of asking cm to take pics of you and your son. You can walk up to any cast member and they will be more then happy to take pics with your camera for you. Also we did have the photpass people take pics of us as well, they were kind of pricey but it was worth it because they took some great shots of my family together in front of the castle. Hope this helps and Have a great trip :) Cara

We have a camera that will allow us to take small video clips. Personally I prefer using the camera, as pictures are a whole lot easier to scrapbook and frame than videos.

We will use both, I have a 35 mm Canon and DH has Digi for still shots, and we recently bought a new video camera, but it does has the ability to capture some still shots as well.

We have the Kodak V570 digital camera that does still photos and short videos. We use it for both, but mostly for the still shots. I am also an avid scrapbooker, so it works well for me!

I'm all for the camera. For us standing around videotaping seems to mean that one parent isn't actually involved in the action. They're just documenting everything. I'd rather whip a few photos off and actually be involved with whatever is going on.

I use a camera more often, but do like video. I dont know why I dont use video more, but I do make photo albums for the kids. What I do at WDW is to bring both to MK the first day and shoot both. On rides I mainly use the video (the dark rides too since the video has night shot). If we go back to MK another day, then I leave the video behind and shoot stills. I was able to carry a small video and a small camera in a waist pack, but I bought a bigger SLR type still so I will have to switch to a backpack. You could always have someone else use the other camera, but if like my family, they are clueless on how to get good shots!

My DH and I try to use both camcorder and camera. Usually my DH controls the camcorder and I snap pics.

I am a shutterbug all the time, but especially at WDW! DH usually mans the video camera and I have a 35mm and digital to work with. Counting our photopass pictures we had 800 photos following our trip and about 2 hours in video! Some may think I'm a little overboard, and maybe I am, but we had such a great time that I can't imagine not capturing thoses memories! I have 2 Creative Memories scrapbook FULL and still need to finish our last day!

Dh and I are talking about getting one of the combo kind. But we don't even know where to start with getting one, features, cost, etc..etc.. Would you mind letting me know what model it is, how well does it work, anything you don't like about it? PM me if you'd prefer. Thanks so much! :goodvibes

We haven't taken our current (old!) camcorder with us. I hate that I don't have any video for us to watch but I don't want to have to carry it all over WDW either, looking thru a tiny screen.

If you go with a combo unit be sure the camera part has at least 3 mpgs (the higher the better) otherwise they wont be good for printing. I have heard about some combos that do that. They will cost more though. Most digital cameras can shoot short video clips, but they chew up your memory.
