How do you call a taxi?

We are staying at the Swan and think we will need to call for a taxi from some late dinners(we'll have 2 little kids) etc.. We won't have a car and the transportation will be an issue so I really think I'll like the taxi option. How do you go about it? Which company should we use? Is there a long wait? Do they come from outside WDW? Thanks so much for your help! Threehearts

We usually use a towncar, but once we did a last-minute extension of a WDW trip after a cruise, and we used a taxi from Dixie Landings to the airport. The hotel called the cab for me. They have some waiting right on property, so they show up pretty fast. It cost more than a towncar to go to MCO, but it worked out okay for spur-of-the-moment transportation.

Thanks for the reply. I will be using taxis from resort to resort late in the evening or from DTD to the resort or the opposite. I'm okay with the airport plans. Appreciate the help. Susan

The valet at any deluxe resort will know how to get you a taxi. Also stop by the front desk / guest services at any hotel and they will have taxi service numbers available and would be glad to contact one for you if the hotel you are visiting/staying doesn't have valet service (All Star's). If you have a cell phone you can always call yourself. Cabs are plentiful in the world, don't sweat it. Unless you are trying to hail a cab at 3AM there should be plenty around willing to take you. Pre and post dinner is prime time for cabs in the world.

Since they are right there in WDW they really get to the resort fast. In December we took a cab from WL to BC. I called the valet from our room when we were ready to leave. By the time we got to the door of the lobby the cab was there.

Okay-

Say I'm late walking around DTD and I want a taxi back to the Swan. Wouldn't it be easiest if I had the phone number with me and could call on my cell rather than walk around shops trying to get them to get me a cab? Anyone know the best company inside WDW? Thanks again. I keep picturing my 2 little kids and me walking around in the dark begging for a taxi...LOL. Threehearts

Ask the valet when you are checking in for the name and number of a reputable cab company. Program the number in your cell phone or write it down and keep it someplace handy if you don't have a cell phone.

Cabs are all around WDW, most of the time you won't even need to call for one. They will just be hanging about.

Unless you are out with your kids at some odd hours (3AM) you will have no problems hailiing a cab.

princess674-

Now that I've read so many reassuring messages, I'll put all of my anxiety to rest. I remember many an evening meeting my husband in NYC and each of calling the other that we were late because every taxi was full. WDW definitely isn't Manhattan and I can't believe that I got so worried over it. Thanks, DISers. Susan

Actually, cabs line up over near the PI bus stop, so at night, you can just walk over there and hop in one.

Checker Cabs (the official cab of Disney) are alllllll over property, and can be found quite easily. In the event that you need to call one, 407-699-9999 is the numner.
