How Do You Book Your Dis Vacation?

For years I've used an agent at CAA but since their relationship ended last year with Disney, I no longer receive any discount or perks. I have also grown tired of driving a half hour each way to the local CAA office just to pick up my travel documents. I looked at expedia.ca last year but the agent I spoke with was clueless about the my magic plus pkg (park tickets) and Fall free dining promotion and told me he could only book the room. Maybe I should have called again to chance a different agent. Do most of you book on your own through the disney website? Has anyone found a good Cdn travel agency that does offer a discount or perks?

I just book thru Disney. Since we prefer the savings of a room only discount and don't do dining plans, we only book a room only reservation. I will call back and modify the reservation and apply a discount when they come out. That leaves me free to buy tickets thru Undercover Tourist. I also arrange travel insurance and flights separate!y (although we usually drive now).

The only time I might be tempted to book thru an agency would be for a stackable discount like the recent Orbitz one.

I went through a travel agent this year and tbh I'm not sure that I would again. I found it a really frustrating process. Planning next trip for 2016 and am going the DIY route.

Currently I have booked direct through Disney. I am looking at Orbitz and Expedia, though, so may jump ship LOL

Our first two trips we booked through airmiles. Now we just book directly with Disney. It's much easier and convenient. We've booked both room only and packages with tickets and dining in the past. We always book our flights independently too. We book online with SW. :thumbsup2

I booked ours through Disney. I like the freedom of being in charge of our own and not having to rely on someone else ;)

Our next trip I'm looking at renting DVC points, cashing in airmiles for tickets and buying any extra tickets needed from undercover tourist. We won't be doing dinning plan this time.

We have booked directly with Disney. Sometimes by phone and sometimes just on the website. Have had no issues with Disney.
I have more issues with Air Canada...

For the room and sometimes tickets (so either RO or a MYW package), we generally book directly with Disney either via their website or by phone.

Twice (1 past trip, and 1 for our upcoming December trip), I redeemed my bank's Rewards points through their Rewards website for a one night room only stay at a Disney resort -- the one night after-cruise bookend of a split stay). FWIW, to Disney the first time we did this it appeared as if the room was booked via Travelocity, so that must of been who the bank used on the back end, though it did not show that way when i booked the reservation. For the first trip we were able to book the RO discount in effect at the time. For our upcoming trip the night is in what is usually a blackout from RO discounts, so it is rack rate and I do not expect a discount will come for the date. The rewards program reservations allow ONE change to a reservation, for a $10 fee. The pre-cruise multi-night stay at a different resort I booked through Disney's website (rack rate and we are willing to pay that, but I am hoping there will be a RO discount open up for those dates later in the year, and if there is we will switch the reservation to the discount rate).

(I should note that other than redeeming the bank rewards for a room, whenever I travel anywhere I book directly with the hotel company through their website, taking advantage of frequent guest programs and special offers; we typically book the AAA/CAA rate as it is usually the cheapest option that is refundable/cancelable.)

Air we do directly through the airline website (my preferred right now is WestJet in large part because Air Canada really screwed up during my last flight with them).

For tickets I have done those either as part of a MYW package (via Disney) or separately. For separately I have bought via CAA (member discount), and for another trip I redeemed Air Miles to get MYW tickets.

Finally, all of this is put on a Canadian credit card that has multiple types of travel insurance benefits if their card is used to pay for the entire trip. I also separately purchase an annual multi-trip medical insurance plan through an insurance broker; the plan we get covers any number of trips outside one's home province upto 35 days long each trip, and has a "pre-existing conditions must be stable for 7 days" clause, which is the best I was able to find. I also have some travel medical coverage through work's extended health benefits insurance, which has no pre-existing condition stable period but which has a much lower limit of coverage. I figure the two combined should be able to deal with anything I would encounter, and both include return-home provisions.

I would be interested in hearing where other Canadians buy their trip insurance through, as we have considered doing that for some trips, but not found a good company to use; there seem to be so much better travel insurance options for US residents :-(

We book all Disney related items directly with Disney. It's easier, and I like searching for the deals myself. We used a TA the first time, and never again. It was a pain to get in touch with her, and she didn't get us anything better than we could have got ourselves. And we never received our "Mickey mail" which was really sad for our first trip onsite.

We book flights and our rental car usually through Expedia, but sometimes directly with the airline or rental agency - whichever gives us the best deal.

We have a Scotiabank Gold AMEX card with a great rate of return for reward dollars we can apply to our vacations, and so long as 75% of our vacation is put on the card, we get excellent trip cancellation/interruption insurance - plus car rental, medical, etc. Well worth the $99 fee, if you ask me.

I always use Dreams Unlimited Travel. I book air myself but do the reservations for rooms and/or packages through Dreams. Very easy to make changes through them and you can still be an uber planner like me or let them make your adrs etc for you. And don't forget, they are chiefly responsible for these forums we all enjoy for free so I like to support them when I can!

I have always booked direct with Disney as I do a lot of research and therefore know what is best for my family and I.

Does anyone know when you can book for 2016? Hotels and Airlines only go up to November or December.

We have DVC so 99% of the time it's all me who does the booking -- however for cruises and the odd paid trip we use a TA, based in San Diego who has become a personal friend of ours over the years. She specializes in Disney so that's why we work with her even though she's in the US.

We have booked through Disney directly in the past, but found that this year, with the exchange rate, it would have cost $700 more. So we booked through WestJet Vacations and it's been great so far. You will not be able to have other discounts added if they come up though (like free dining), but we were OK with that.

I think you can start booking for 2016 sometime in July.

I book all our families vacays to Disney! I find it easier and I can watch the airlines for cheap seats!

For our WDW stays I book everything myself. I like having control over the details of our stay. For our DCL cruise next year I booked with Dreams Unlimited as I don't know much about cruises and for the OBC.
