We are planning a trip for 2011. Our daughter will not be our package because she is in college and can't stay the full trip. This means that she will not be issued a Magical Express Ticket. I went onto the Mears website and it says I have to go through Disney. Is it possible to book her onto the bus with us if she isnt part of the package? Has anyone done this? Thanks for the help!

You can't book her on ME but you can pay for her with Mears at the airport. Mears does transportation all over from the airport. In many cases, they will put her on an ME bus anyway after you pay.

That is, just show up at the airport. There is a Mears counter near the Magical Express welcoming area.

Another point, as she is not on your package she will not have a room key and she will not be able to take part in any of the on-site guest perks including Extra Magic Hours.

But she can add her to the package when she gets to the hotel, can't she? I've never done it, but I've read several times here that you simply have to add the additional person when they get to the hotel. Isn't this correct?

That is correct. Once you arrive at Disney, you can add extra guests to the room without adding them to the full package.

As a matter of fact, if you add her to the room BEFORE she arrives on DME, you can have the front desk add her to DME and then she can go straight to the DME desk and get a free ride without paying for Mears.

Correct and then you'd pay for an additional adult. Yes, the person wouldn't be on the package but they would still be an additional adult and subject to the fee (outside DVC/DVC rentals of course).

We did this for our two college-aged nephews when they joined our trip last year.

When we got to the hotel we added them as guests to their parents room. This gave them the "free" transportation on ME.

These are the three easy steps: ;)
1. Add her to the room when you arrrive, letting the front desk know what day she'll be there; you may have to pay the extra adult fee per night, but CSR didn't charge us last year (that's just that resort, and maybe was an oversight by front desk :confused3)
2. Tell her to go to ME counter at the airport when she arrives. If she has a checked bag, she'll need to give a description of the bag to them so they can tag her luggage and get it to the resort (better to pack everything in a carryon if she can so she doesn't have to do that :thumbsup2)
3. The bus will bring her to the resort!

If you are planning on adding her to the ressie once there, make sure you give her a DME luggage tag or order extra ones. Give one to her (or 2 or however many bags she has) and she can tag them and they will deliver her bags too if you want. It wont have her name on it, but will have yours or someone on your reservations info...

Of course if you are at capactity and putting her in the room anyway, which I'm not saying, just pointing out, you shouldnt do that as the room capacities are for a reason :) In that case you wont be able to add her to the ressie and wont be able to use DME, I wont discuss what would happen if she still used the tags on her luggage as that's discussed in a sticky at the top of this forum...

Not necessary to leave a DME tag, the baggage claim tags from the airline are sufficient to provide to DME.
