When (thinking positive) the AP rates come out. Should I mention that I already have reservations? Or do I let them check first before asking them to apply rates to my existing room? Why would they want to apply codes if I already booked at rack rate, right? So, how do you ask?
The reason I ask is yesterday I got a "postcard" and called right away. I told them my ressie number first and she checked. Bummer, no rooms available for my entire stay! (BTW-my dates are 10-31 to 11-8 at CBR) Is this week really that popular?
As you can see, I am stressing about obtaining better rates.......
TIA

When the AZZ code came out, I had a 6-night reservation booked beginning Sept 28th at the WL for a standard view room with a AAA discount. When I asked to have the rate code applied to my room, the CM said it was not available for me. :( I decided I'd listen to the folks on this board and keep trying. Sure enough, on my 2nd attempt, the CM said the rate was not available for the standard view room that I had booked at that time, but it was available for a woods view for my same dates. I, of course, switched to the woods view because the discounted woods view saved me over a AAA standard view.

Some CMs just don't either know how to, or just don't offer to go the extra mile.

I'd try again if I were you.

That week is probably popular due to MNSSHP and the Food and Wine Festival so may have booked up early. Did you ask about any other resort? As others have said keep trying and good luck.

I am going to check back frequently for the postcard thingy. The CM said only King sized rooms were left. Can't do that with 2 kids and DH.
Thanks for the encouragement!

Cm said that the AKL was available, DH had heart set on our favorite CBR. Besides, I wouldn't be saving any money since AKL is a "deluxe" hotel. I was just trying to figure out how to ask for these rates when I already have a room. I just had a feeling that disney is reluctant to give discounts to people who already have the room booked at rack rate? Any opinions?

I feel if the discount room is available they will give it to you. I've done this a couple of times myself and the CM even seemed excited that she was able to find me a discounted room. Don't feel uncomfortable about this it's done all the time. Good Luck!

I had a reservation for my stay when the September codes came out, called had the code added to my reservation...no problem...then when the Florida Resident codes came out and were even better I called and the CM added that to my reservation...they are for the most part very helpful but some have been on the job longer...it could just be the one night Oct. 31, blocking your request call back and have them check the other dates in your stay day by day and see what they can do. You may have to do a split resevation but the savings will be worth it.

No, I've never found that to be true. If there's availability you get the discount, if there isn't you don't. Existing reservations have no effect one way or the other.

I had a similar experience as DznyDreams. When I called to see if I could get the AZZ code applied to an existing reservation, the CM checked and seemed almost as happy as I was that it saved me money :)

I also had no trouble adding a code to my existing ressie. I have a package booked and the CM offered to add it to our ressie.:D

I have never had any trouble applying a discount code to an existing reservation. I always make my reservations in advance and use the code when it comes out. (I already have reservations for April 2005.) I always watch for the codes and call the morning they are made public.

Oh they definitely will apply the codes to existing reservations. Even though my earlier post indicated I didn't have any luck this year, I have done it before (in 2000 and before) without having to switch resorts or room types.

It has just been a while for me because I rarely book stays through CRO/WDTC any longer. As a matter of fact, the reservation I mentioned above has already been cancelled because I had to move my trip dates to Oct. Also, since I did not get a postcard or email, and I have given up all hope for Oct general-public discounts, I'm no longer in a WL woods view. I'm now in a studio at BWV (renting).
